Amicia gawked at the woman before her. Was this Captain Sophia??
The woman appeared to have gills on the sides of her face, and her skin was mostly tan with what looked like red scales along the sides of her arms and face. There were a few red fins placed in the best places to make swimming easier. The rest of her body was covered by the typical Captain's garb of a red and yellow jacket with loose fitting blue stripped pantaloons. Except there was a glaringly obvious red tail flowing from behind her.
"Never seen a walking merfolk?" the captain inquired, looking highly amused.
"No... I can't say I have." Amicia admitted. "How... How is this possible?"
"Can't say I didn't wonder the same thing..." Lucas replied from beside her, curiosity thick in his voice.
The rest of the group also looked at the captain curiously. Captain Sophia smirked.
"My mother was a beautiful merfolk taken in by a handsome pirate... Perhaps I'll tell you the story one day, but for now, that should be answer enough."
Amicia was fascinated, and she wished to know more. But Lucas grabbed her arm and shook his head as he saw her taking a step forward. Fine, she'd have to wait she supposed. "Very well, though I hope to hear more soon, Captain Sophia!"
Sophia smirked. "Alright, let's get going then!"
"But it's about to be night!" Sir Rodric pointed out as the stars were starting to show in the sky.
"Won't stop me!" Sophia replied, jumping up to the upper deck where the wheel was. "All hands on deck!"
Suddenly, there was a large group of men and women, a few elves, and even a dwarf hopping around the ship preparing to set sail. They turned to Joseph, who smiled kindly at them, and Amicia felt gratitude.
"Thank you for seeing us this far, Joseph."
"Don't mention it, Fairy Amicia. Good luck with the quest for your brother!" he replied, looking fondly at the little fairy, ruffling his hair, making Hugo smile up at him broadly.
"How..." Amicia started.
"How did I figure it out? You've seen a thing or two when you're my age. Best of luck to you all!"
"Thank you, Joseph," Lucas replied, truly sounding grateful.
Nodding, Joseph just smiled and got on the plank going off the ship still currently docked.
"I like him! He's nice!" Hugo smiled, though he looked a tad sad at their new friend's departure.
"I agree," Amicia replied, holding her brother's shoulder protectively.
"Prepare to set sail!" Captain Sophia called from above them.
Sir Rodric and a few of his knights went to help where they could, and Sophia beckoned up to Amicia, Hugo, and the Sorcerer to join her at the helm.
"By day we have the sun to set our course. By night, the stars!" Sophia grinned as she started to turn the wheel away towards the middle of the harbor as they untied from the dock.
Amicia inhaled a deep breath as the ship started to move forward. "Amazing!"
"Look, look, Amicia!!" Hugo cried, pulling her to the side once again, pointing out majestic creatures with long whimsical tails and glowing colors.
"How beautiful!"
"They're a sign of good luck!" Sophia cried, a wide smile on her face. You would think it her first time to sea if you didn't know she was a captain.
