... Luna...

Everything is working out great. Luna is sure that Roland would have been fascinated by her performance. Maybe her sister would think the same? In retrospect, she wonders if she had overdone it a little. Her back still hurts from her crash into the tree. Although she doubted that anything on her body would need to be repaired. But if her sister knew about it, she would be in trouble. The concerned look on the human's face certainly had been worth it. Every time she looked at the Gray Raven Commandant, her mechanical heart skipped a beat. What is wrong with her? She doesn't understand why she finds the human so interesting. But she is sure of one thing. This human will be hers. She will take him to her base. She can worry about everything else when the time comes.

... Commandant...

"It's getting late, we should rest for today." says Luna and looks up to the sky. It's already dawn and big clouds suggest that it's going to be a dark night. Maybe it will rain, if you're unlucky.

You point over to a spot with particularly many and high stones. "How about over there, we can spend the night there and enemies would have a hard time spotting us among the rocks."

"Alright, come on" Luna replies, taking your hand. She gently pulls you in the direction you pointed her. Once there, she quickly lets go of your hand. Her cheeks are flushed.

She crosses her arms again. "What are you waiting for. Shouldn't you be resting? You're human, you should eat and drink something."

You sit down on the ground and lean your back against a stone. The ground is hard and uncomfortable, but for one night you will be fine. You always have some food in your pocket in case a mission takes longer. Relieved, you realize that the packaging of your ration is not damaged. The dry cookie is tasteless, but it contains all the calories you need to remain healthy. Luna sits down across from you while you eat.

You swallow the last bite of your food. In the meantime, it has become so dark that you can hardly see anything. A breeze makes you shiver.

"It's getting cold, should I make a fire?" asks Luna. She seems restless and she keeps looking around.

You shake your head. "I don't think that's such a good idea, everyone might see us from far away. We shouldn't risk any more corrupt or scavengers finding us. Your frame must have some damaged parts from the fight. I don't want you to get hurt any more. Other commanders might not care, but I do."

Luna stares at you with wide eyes. "I didn't expect that from a human." But then her expression hardens. "But believe me, I'm not weak. I've fought much bigger battles and defeated opponents others would run from."

"I'm sorry. I never said you were. You misunderstood. I was just saying that I think it's wrong for constructs to be disrespected by their commanders. Constructs are human too and feel pain and have feelings as well. So I won't treat you like a machine," you say quickly.

Luna laughs. "Really? It's rare that a human remembers that constructs were once humans too. No human ever cared about my life before I became a construct. The only one who sees me as a person is my sister. To everyone else, I'm just a machine doing its job."

"I'm sorry about that. Anyway, if you were part of my team, I would make sure others treated you with respect." Secretly, you hope she'll consider your offer.

In response, Luna sighs. " That sounds nice. But it's impossible."

You find it hard to hide the disappointment in your voice. "Yeah, you're right. You already have a commander and your mission, after all. But when you eventually finish your mission and return to Babylonia, think about it."

Luna nods and remains silent.

After sitting for a while, you realize how exhausted you are. It's getting harder and harder for you to keep your eyes open. You curl up on the floor and use your arm as a pillow. "Good night, Luna," you murmur tiredly.

Even though you're exhausted, it's hard for you to fall asleep. The floor is hard and no matter how you lie down, you are unable to fall asleep.

You look over at Luna. She doesn't notice you watching her. She sits there quietly, but her eyes keep darting back and forth. It's like she's on the lookout for something. She seems very nervous. During the day she acted so confident and strong. You are not sure what is going on. But an idea comes to you. Maybe Luna feels uncomfortable in the dark. Is that why she wanted to light a campfire at dusk? Otherwise, you can't explain why she's acting this way only now when it's dark.

Surely, if you ask her about it, she would not admit it. She is far too proud to admit something like that. That's for sure. But you have a plan.

You sit up and rub your arms as if you were freezing.

Luna flinches as your sudden movement startles her. "Is everything all right? What's wrong?" she asks.

"Oh nothing, it's just a little cold. There's nothing I can do about that. I just hope I don't catch a cold."

You haven't even finished speaking when Luna moves over to you. "Then... Just lean on me. But don't get any stupid ideas. I'm doing this to protect you from freezing to death." she says stubbornly.

You lean your head against her shoulder. Suddenly your heart is beating so fast that you wonder if Luna can hear it. You also want to know if she feels the same way. But you are afraid to ask. Before you can think of anything else you fall asleep.
