You run toward the voice. Now that you are close enough, you understand the words.
"Commandant! Where are you? Commandant?" calls the voice of a girl. She sounds anxious.
"I'm here Liv!" you shout as loud as you can.
It doesn't take long for Liv to run towards you. Her white jacket is dirty and tears are streaming down her cheeks. She hugs you.
"I'm so glad to see you. I was worried about you. We contacted you all the time on the comm, but you didn't answer. I thought that..." she says and sniffles. She checks you from head to toe to make sure you're not hurt.
"Don't cry. I'm fine. I just lost some of my equipment in the water," you reply and you return her hug. "Where are the others? Are they alright too?"
"Yes, Lucia is leading the team that lured the corrupted out of town. Lee and I are part of the search team. Babylonia has launched a huge rescue mission for you." Liv explains, wiping tears from her cheek. She takes your hand and walks ahead. "Come with me I'll take you to the others." Liv pauses for a moment. She lowers her head. "Oh, how could I forget, I should let the team know you're back. They're worried, too, aren't they? I'm sorry. Now the others are going to worry unnecessarily longer because of me."
"Liv, don't blame yourself. It was just a few seconds and I should have thought of it as well. Please don't be sad. "You say quickly and pet her hair with your free hand.
She nods and smiles. Then she informs the teams of your return and you set off again.
She leads you to a spot where the rescue team has set up some sort of camp. A gray tent with a few monitors inside is standing in the middle of it. Next to it are a few shuttles. A couple of constructs guarding the camp wave at you and greet you. You don't recognize them because they all have the same gray frames. You may have even worked with them before, but you can't tell them apart in the identical frames. You decide to talk to them later and learn their names.
Liv leads you inside the tent.
"Sit down and rest for a while. Lucia and Lee will be here soon."
It takes half an hour for you to be reunited with your team. You are now sitting together in a shuttle. Lucia steers the spaceship. Liv sits next to you and takes care of a few scratches you got on the mission. Lee sits across from you and asks you a thousand questions with a worried expression. You tell your team what happened to you. You don't mention Luna at all. Instead, you claim that you were driven to shore by chance and that you snuck past the corrupted. When you leave the athmosphere of the earth and the weightlessness grips you, your heart becomes heavy. You still wish you could fly with Luna and spend time with her.
.....Luna....
When Luna returns to the Ascendants' main base, she is already expected. Alpha looks at her questioningly, but says nothing.
"I'll tell you everything later." says Luna. For now, she wants to get her thoughts in order. She's still too shaken up by all the feelings she hadn't experienced before.
"Welcome back my queen." Roland calls out, bowing deeply. The corners of his mouth twist into a wide grin and his cheeks are slightly flushed. "I have missed you soooo much.... I've collected new subjects for filtering. Do you want to see them?"
Luna rolls her eyes annoyed. She finds Roland's behavior irritating. But then she nods. She can talk to Apha afterwards. Hopefully, by then she'll know what she wants to say to her sister.
Luna sits down on her throne. Roland is just bringing in a construct that is thrashing around and yelling insults. At her signal, Roland takes a step aside and she activates the punishing virus, which forms into some sort of pointy blade in her hand. At that moment, the screaming of the construct falls silent.
"Please don't. Let me go. I won't tell anyone about this place at all. I'll do anything you want, too. I can gather information from Baylonia for you. I will work for you!" the construct shouts desperately. His eyes are wide with fear.
Luna launches the blade out of the virus at the construct. It pierces the belly of the construct and leaves a red glowing spot. Filled with horror, the construct touches the infected spot. Its begging has stopped by now. Luna has had no sympathy for him. She knows all the reactions her captives show when she wants to give them power. Some beg or curse her, like this one. Such constructs don't stand a chance. Their M.I.N.D. is too weak for the virus.
She sighs and waits for Roland to bring her the next prisoner. However it is getting rarer and rarer for an Ascendant to bring her promising constructs.
While she waits, her thoughts wander to the commandant. She is displeased. In retrospect, she regrets her decision to let the commandant go. At first, she had followed the human only out of interest. But this interest slowly turned into adoration. The human had been kind and respectful to her all along. She is not sure when it happened. Perhaps at night, when the Commandant had snuggled up to her to take away her fear of the dark.
As the Babylonian Constucts came closer and closer, she had had to hide. She did not have the heart to say goodbye. Nevertheless, she had followed the commandant at a safe distance. Luna could hardly put her anger into words as the whining white-haired girl from the Gray Ravens hugged her human. Later, she had looked after the Commandant's shuttle until it was out of sight. Only then had she made her way home.
After all that had been done to her and her sister by humans, she had decided a long time ago that all humans must be annihilated. But with the Commandant everything was suddenly different. This one human being had to live on at all costs.
She barely focuses on the construct squirming at her feet as the virus surges through his artificial veins. She blocks out the screams of the construct that has not passed the filtering process. Meanwhile, her thoughts keep circling around the human commandant.
Luna clenches her fist. She would love to have the human at her side right now. But what would the Commandant think of that? She couldn't possibly tell him who she really is. Surely the human would hate her then. Would he kill her like one of the lowly corrupted robots? Or did she mean enough to him by now that the Commandant would at least spare her?
She wants to win the human's heart at any cost. For that, she has decided to be patient. In the end, the Commandant will join her willingly. Then they can be together forever.

You awaken, to the sound of an incoming message in your terminal. "Work again." you sigh, rubbing your eyes. You wish you could just have a single day off, to get some rest. You activate your terminal and open the messages. The first message was sent several hours ago. You must have slept past its arrival. You open it and sigh contentedly. Celica writes you that you have the whole week off. You haven't had that much time off since you started your job as commandant. Then you open the second and last message.
Your screen goes black. You wonder what is going on. You click on the screen, but it doesn't respond. Even when you knock on it, the screen remains black. But then a message appears. In red letters it says on your terminal:
Hello commandant, did you miss me? Don't worry, this is a secure channel, we can write to each other whenever you have time.
