Midnight had his hands stuffed into his pockets as he walked down the road. He passed by shops and houses, but didn't pay any attention to them. He was too stuck in his own head. What the hell was Lucy thinking? She couldn't seriously be considering forgiving Nyx, right? What had gotten into her? He had tortured her and assisted in killing her friends. He was a part of a plot to take over the Celestial Spirit World. How was any of that forgivable to her? How could she consider letting that guy help them, even forgive him, after everything that he had done and was going to do? What made him so deserving of forgiveness? Of Lucy's forgiveness? He hadn't done anything that warranted such a thing.

Midnight groaned in frustration and moved into an alleyway. He leaned against the wall and stared up at the blue sky, his brow furrowed and his lips pulled into a frown. He couldn't believe it. Nyx didn't deserve forgiveness. He deserved to be in prison with no possibility of getting out. He deserved to never see the light of day again. He deserved to never be free again. He deserved to be tortured for the things that he did.

He...He...

He was better than Midnight.

Midnight sighed, his face softening to a look of guilt, as he slid down the wall to sit on the ground. He put his hands over his face and slumped against the wall. What was he thinking? He was so, so much worse than Nyx. He had tried to kill mages and innocent people alike, actually killed people, tried to bring chaos down on Earth Land, and tried to sacrifice Lucy to a giant clock.

And yet, he was forgiven. He was pardoned by the queen, forgiven by Fairy Tail, even offered a place in the guild, and given a chance to redeem himself. What made him deserving of these things? Why was he more deserving than Nyx? If Nyx shouldn't be allowed to walk free again, then didn't that mean he too shouldn't be either?

Midnight sighed and dropped his hands onto his lap. What was he doing when he scolded Lucy? He was such a hypocrite. So, why was he like that? Why did he say those things? He had no right to criticize Nyx when he himself was no better.

But...he also couldn't bring himself to accept Nyx into their group. He still didn't want that guy to join them. He didn't want him to help them. He didn't want to give him a chance. He just wanted Nyx to leave them alone and never show his face again.

Midnight stood up and leaned against the wall behind him. What was he going to do now? He couldn't go back to the hotel. If he did, then he would have to face Nyx. He couldn't do that, didn't want to do that. However, he also couldn't stay away for a long time. They had to move on soon and stay ahead of Terra and Lust.

Lucy's hurt expression popped into his memory. Midnight sighed once more and he brought his hand up to rest against his chest as he felt it begin to hurt. Why was he so harsh to Lucy? Why was he so upset with her? He felt so bad for hurting her that it actually hurt his heart, making it twist painfully at the memory alone.

He pushed himself away from the wall and began walking back to the hotel. He needed to apologize to her. He hated seeing that look on her face. He hated that Nyx was with them, and he still believed that he shouldn't be forgiven so easily, but he also couldn't live with having hurt Lucy. He did it before, he can't do it again. Something in him was pushing him to apologize to her, something that he couldn't ignore or push away.

Midnight continued to walk, staring down at the ground as he walked. After some minutes passed, he accidentally bumps his shoulder into that of someone else. He turned to apologize, only to freeze upon seeing who it was.

A man with greying brown hair and a matching mustache. Wrinkles that signified middle age and a sharp suit. A smile that seemed friendly, but was actually hiding evil intent.

Midnight's eyes widened in horror as he took a few steps back. His breathing came out in shallow, quick puffs and his body trembled. His surroundings became unknown to him as he kept his eyes on the man in front of him.

The man took a step closer, resulting in Midnight taking a step back. His heartbeat becomes erratic and deafening as his breathing matches. Tears burn his eyes and his mind is filled with one thought.

Run.

Midnight turned on his heel and ran in the direction of the hotel. He didn't even bother to dodge people as he ran. The only thing on his mind was the need to get away from that man. His eyes zeroed in on the hotel, which he was quickly approaching. Hope settled into his heart as he got closer to it, and a smile began growing on his face. He would be safe there, he was sure of it. He just had to find Lucy and tell her that he needed her help. He didn't want to tell her about his past, but he also couldn't be near that man.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed Midnight's wrist and he was thrown into an alleyway. He fell on his front to the ground with a pained gasp. He raised his head and raised his hands in front of himself, seeing that his palms were scraped from the fall. He hissed as his palms stung and warm blood dripped from the scraps.

He hissed in pain again when a foot was brought down hard on his back, a stab of pain racing through his body. Midnight dug his fingernails into the ground and he moved his head to look behind himself as best he could. He gritted his teeth at the sight of the man from before standing on his back, a chilling smile on his gracefully aged face.

Midnight's body trembled and tears rolled down his face. He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He could only stare in rapidly growing fear and dread.

"It's nice to see you again, Macbeth." Abeze put more pressure on Midnight's back, causing him to groan in pain.

I hope that you enjoyed this chapter. Sorry that it's short, I wasn't feeling well.

I'm also sorry for the delay. My dog had to have a c-section due to one of her puppies getting stuck in the birth canal. She and her three surviving puppies are fine, however, we unfortunately lost the fourth puppy.
