After we consume the souls, Father and I return to our resting chambers.

I won't rest. Not tonight. I need to know what happened with Pip. Once I'm positive my Father is asleep, I open a portal to the same spot I teleported Pip to.

I step through and close the portal. I am standing in South Park, Colorado. I haven't been here in two years, it feels nostalgic.

I don't see Pip... Wait, there is a trail of feathers... that's right, he probably got injured when I was burning everything.

I follow the trail over to a hill. Our hill. The hill we sat on together on the last night. It's in a grassy field and on the top there is a lone willow tree. It's the place he told me he loved me for the first time. It's the place we had our first kiss and the place we said goodbye.

Pip is standing on the other side of our tree, looking at it closely.

"Pip?"

He calmly turns to me. "Dark prince. You have followed me. I don't fancy being followed."

"I didn't come here to hurt you. I came to see if you're okay, Pip."

"My name is Philip."

"Sorry. Philip, are you okay? Did you get hurt?"

"I am doing adequately. Why does the dark prince want to know about my well-being?"

"I care about you."

"I don't know you."

"You used to."

"My life prior to this was lived as a human. How would I have known you?"

Maybe I shouldn't tell him he was my boyfriend... That might be a shock for an angel. "We met when I was sent here to study humans."

"Why have you sent me to this location?"

"I dropped you pretty far from here, this is where you used to live. Why did you come all the way over to this tree?"

He puts a hand on the bark of the old tree. "I was drawn to it. Maybe it has power or maybe it meant something to me. Either way, I saw it and couldn't resist the urge to approach it. What an odd spectacle."

I turn to the tree and look up through the drooping leaves. "You loved this tree. You told me that yourself."

"I don't wish to associate with the devil's dark son."

"I guess you fallen angels are pretty devoted, huh?"

"Nothing matters more than the one we serve."

"Nothing? Nothing at all?"

"... No. Nothing."

"I guess you're kinda like gods child then, aren't you?"

"He is the father to all. But I was chosen to protect heaven by his own judgment."

"God's personal angel and Satan's only son. Odd pair, isn't it?"

"I would not consider us a pair. I should be fighting you right now, but you have saved me. Just this once I will spare you. If our paths should cross again, I will have no choice but to fight you."

"You act like you don't have free will."

He looks at me. He doesn't have an expression. His voice never changed tone either. It's like his personality has been stripped from him. It's like he isn't even the same person anymore.

He spreads out his huge wings. He flexes them a few times to make sure they are in good shape.

"Until next time, dark prince."

"Wait, Pip!"

He flies to the heavens with one great flap of his wings. Just like that, he is gone again.
