"Not all villains are pure evil. Some are just misunderstood heroes."[ Lilith Crimson and Jason Todd was one of those.
The misunderstood heroes. ]

The night air in Gotham was thick and heavy, the kind that pressed down on the city's streets and alleys, adding to the ever-present sense of foreboding. In the dim light of an isolated alley, two teenagers worked quickly, their movements precise and practiced. Jason Todd, a wiry kid with a knack for trouble, crouched beside the imposing Batmobile, carefully loosening the hubcaps. Next to him, Lilith Crimson, her eyes sharp and defiant, kept watch, her posture radiating tension.
"Almost there," Jason whispered, a hint of exhilaration in his voice. "Just a couple more minutes."
Lilith's gaze flickered around the alley, her senses attuned to every sound. "Hurry it up, Jay. This is Batman's turf."
Jason smirked, prying off the final hubcap. "Got it!"
But their victory was short-lived. A deep, authoritative voice cut through the darkness. "Step away from the car. Now."
Both teens froze, their heads snapping up to see the imposing figure of Batman emerging from the shadows, his cape flowing like a shadow within a shadow. His eyes, piercing and unyielding, locked onto them. Jason's heart raced, a mix of fear and defiance surging through him.
"Put the hubcaps down," Batman ordered, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Lilith stepped forward, her chin held high. "We're not looking for trouble, Batman," she said evenly. "Just let us go."
Batman's gaze shifted briefly to her, his eyes narrowing. "Stealing is trouble. Hand over the hubcaps."
Jason swallowed hard, glancing at Lilith. "Look, we just needed some quick cash. We didn't mean any harm."
"And you thought stealing from me was a good idea?" Batman's voice was icy, his presence overwhelming.
Jason took a step back, his bravado fading. "We... we didn't know it was your car."
Lilith's eyes blazed with defiance. "Yeah, well, it's not like you need the money. You're just a rich guy with gadgets."
"And what about you? What's your excuse?" Batman's expression remained stoic.
Lilith's defiance wavered for a moment. "We do what we have to survive. No rest for the wicked huh."
There are better ways to survive than stealing." Batman's gaze softened slightly, but his voice remained firm.
Lilith scoffed, but there was a hint of desperation in her eyes. "Like what? Living in this city, you do what you can."
Jason looked between Lilith and Batman, torn. "We didn't have a choice."
"You always have a choice," Batman replied. "It's what you do with those choices that define you."
Jason hesitated, the weight of Batman's words sinking in.
Batman's gaze remained on Jason. "You have potential," he said, his tone measured and calm. "With the right guidance, you could make something of yourself. Come with me."
Jason's eyes widened, caught off guard by the offer. He looked at Lilith, whose face was etched with a mixture of anger and betrayal.
"What about Lils?" Jason asked, his voice cracking slightly.
Batman's expression hardened. "She has to answer for her actions. The law is the law."
Lilith's eyes blazed with fury. "You're just gonna abandon me? After everything we've been through?" she demanded, her voice shaking with emotion.
Jason looked down, guilt gnawing at him. "Lils, I..."
Before Jason could finish, Batman stepped forward, his grip firm as he took hold of Lilith's arm. "You're coming with me," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
As Batman led Lilith away, Jason stood rooted to the spot, watching his only friend being taken into custody. The weight of his decision pressed heavily on him, the thrill of the night's adventure now replaced by a cold, hollow feeling.
Lilith glanced back over her shoulder, her eyes meeting Jason's one last time. "I'll never forget this, Jason. Never."
With those words, she was gone, swallowed by the darkness and the harsh reality of Gotham's justice system. Jason stood alone in the alley, the stolen hubcap still clutched in his hand, the enormity of his choice sinking in.
Five years later, the memory of that night would haunt him, shaping the man he would become and the fractured bond with the one person who had once been his closest friend.
