Waking up to a stray cat hissing in my ear wasn't the best way to wake up.
I guess it was better than the cells.
Today I need to acquire some money to fix myself up, meaning steal, or sell something. There ain't no rest for the wicked. Dusting myself off from the concrete embedded with rocky gravel, I ignore the headache mingling in my brain and pluck the spare Hubcap up, heading out of the alley. I manage to try to hold part of the hubcap close to me, bearing it from prying eyes.
My mind reflects on Jason's note as I continue walking down the street, passing the unbothered, oblivious citizens. Last night was my weak moment that my heart has let in since that night I was sent to jail, but today is different. I'm already planning on how to find Jason, Batman's sidekick. I still want my revenge after him abandoning me, putting me behind bars the past few years. That note was written when I was only 2 months in the cell, he probably hates me now after being with a rich man in a wealthy mansion. Jason Todd didn't let himself have emotional feelings, and I know him the best, knew. Jason Todd would ignore or shrug others trying to help him, driven by the need he has to prove he is better than people think he is, than what he believed. And Jason Todd especially didn't allow others in, only me. I feel a small ting of jealousy because he has probably forgotten about me like a discarded toy.
I guess people move on, find new people, but the question is, am I ready to move on?
Walking to the old garage we use to sell the hubcaps, every place is just a memory waiting to be reimagined, thinking about what it used to be. Up ahead, I saw the broken, flickering white light of Mike's Cars Shop. I really hope this Mike guy was still kicking about, he was at the older stage about 63 the last time I saw him. I never got to sell hubcaps to him on that last Friday. I reach for the door handle, my other hand holding the Hubcap. As I fully open the door the bell above me rings like usual. The garage is almost pitch black if it wasn't for a small white light illuminating the far corner across from me.
I call out into the distance, hoping for a reply. "Mike?"
Silence. I take cautious steps forward, each one deliberate and slow, my ears straining for any sound that might break the silence. "It's me Lilith, I just want to talk."
The garage was soundless, no echoes bouncing off of walls, no engines.
"Well look who we have here,"
The familiar, steady voice with a slight chuckle was unmistakably his.
He appeared from the other door, now strolling over to He leaned his arms against the black-and-white checkered checkout counter, the weight of his years evident in the slow, deliberate motion.
I let a small nervous laugh with a slight smile out. "Wow, thought you were living in your own grave there for a sec, Mike." My voice teasing at him.
"Not yet Lilith, You'll have to put up with me for a few years still." His voice pauses and his smile disappears for a moment. "How are you Orchid, like seriously how are you after being sent to a jail for three years and by the one and only... y'know" He waves his hand, signaling Jason, not wanting to say his name.
