The sounds of people mumbling and speaking were heard in the dimness. They all crouched down on their feet to make their steps quieter and approached the ladder that would lead to the church's attic. Ashley let go of Seraphina's hand, although seemed quite hesitant to.
"All right, let's get the hell out of here," Leon said as he glanced up to the ladder. If he was a bit taller, he would be able to pull it down and get onto the attic. Knowing he'd be the strongest one to support, he looked at the two ladies. "Can one of you pull it down? You can use me as a support."
"She's lighter, she'll be able to reach." Seraphina quickly said as she pointed to Ashley.
"Oh...okay. I-I'll try." Ashley said with a low voice, a bit unsure of what to do. She got onto Leon's back and stepped on his shoulders, trying to alleviate her weight on him. Her hands stretched and her fingertips finally reached the ladder and pulled it down. Lifting herself up, she got onto the attic.
The other two followed up and got onto the attic as specks of dust floated in the air. The air became dense with the dust but the wind blew in from one open window, where a large drop lead to a platform that they could get down from. Leon leaned over the edge of the window, then jumped down and landed on his feet. Rain poured down and soaked the ends of his hair.
Ashley trembled as her she held her hands close to herself, grimacing at the height. It was way too high for her to jump.
"No way."
Leon looked up and nodded. "It's okay. I got you."
"I'll be right behind you." Seraphina said, attempting to reassure Ashley's nerves. They both kept their voices low and calm, knowing well someone like Ashley had no idea what to do in a dangerous situation like this. Shouting at her would do nothing for her nerves.
Seeing their patient expressions, Ashley hesitantly climbed over the window sill and jumped down. She yelped as she fell, but two strong arms caught her in time. Ashley was placed gently down on her feet by Leon.
"T-thanks."
Seraphina got onto the sill, looking down at the two and held in her breath. As much as she kept her nerves down, it didn't help when Leon's eyes were completely fixated on her. With a heavy sigh, she jumped down and stumbled a bit before balancing herself.
"Roost, I've secured Baby Eagle." Leon called into his comms as they made their way out of the church area.
"Copy that. Is she okay?" Hunnigan asked.
