________
I have simply come to take what is mine.
Leon stepped in front of her, using his large body to shield as he switched to his own handgun. Quickly, he disarmed the tripwire activated bomb with one bullet, wincing as the blast spread. They stepped over the bear traps and entered the manor.
An old floral print wallpaper covered the entirety and the whole house was decorated in an elegant, but very vintage style. The wooden floor and staircase emitted a certain sharp and moldy odor, indicating how long this house had been standing for. A darkness enshrouded the air, but a few lamps were still on and left a warm, dim light.
"Not too shabby. Someone is showing up their neighbors." Leon commented as they entered the dining room. There lay a family dining table, along with a black and white photograph on the table cloth. The picture depicted a adult man and woman, perhaps a husband and wife who used to live there. A few words were written on the back, but Seraphina unfortunately couldn't understand the meaning.
Seeing pictures and small materialistic objects reminded her that people used to live normally in the village of Valdeobos. The image of a family living their day to day lives had sent shivers down her spine, because not only was this a tragic realization, but there were no children in sight. How could have all the children have disappeared?
"There's probably something upstairs," Seraphina tried to store away her dark questions and eyed even more black and white photographs lying on the table. Most of them were pictures of sceneries around the village. "It's too quiet here. I don't like it."
"Let's just be careful." Leon went up the stairs first, the rickety wood creaked under his feet. A single door lead into the only room upstairs, which was the bedroom. On the front was golden detailing with a clear marble placed inside a indent. The marble had a insignia, a symbol they both recognized. Los Illuminados.
Inside, a giant fancy framed picture stood a distance away from the bed. It was a man with grey skin, as if he was a corpse or a monster. His human features were still present, a dark shadow cast upon them. He wore a dark purple robe, the details and jewelry made it resemble a religious clothing. Perhaps he was a leader of a church, but the image made her feel sick.
Seraphina hadn't met him before, but a dreadful feeling lurched in her stomach. She glanced away, not wanting to look at it any longer. Who was he? If her memories weren't lost and she wasn't in such a daze, would this man appear in her mind?
In front of the king sized bed was a desk with a little cabinet. Leon pulled the storage open and took the insignia shaped key from inside. The same symbol as the cult, but this meant he could get past that door back where he came from.
