Really, he should've seen this coming.
Today, out of all days, he’d sent the troublemaker duo out on a simple task: to make sure the area surrounding the Magic Fountain was safe and sound. However, he soon regretted that decision when he entered the room Minghao was waiting for him in; the atmosphere had quickly become tense, suffocating and nausea inducing. It reeked of one sided hostility and merciless glares, all which increased the annoyance of the black haired male.
“Stop that..” He’d murmured at one point, quickly turning away once he noticed he’d said that out loud without thinking of the consequences.
“Stop what?”
“Stop staring at me like that, like if I murdered your cat or something...We need to watch the video; we don’t have time for this.”
Hao huffed. “You’re taking too long.”
And he was, that even Cheol couldn’t deny. The projector proved to be trickier than expected, how Chan handled it was beyond his comprehension.
“Let’s just watch it on your laptop. It’d be easier that way.”
With not much to argue, the boss stood from his seat and made his way over to his secretary. Before he sat down, however, he dared ask an all too familiar question:
“Am I welcomed?”
“You’re not.” Seungcheol expected that. “But we won’t get your work done if you don’t take a seat.”At this, he couldn't help but frown. “Are you looking for a fight?”
“Who said I was?”
A sigh echoed amongst the silence. “Whatever.” The leader said before he sat down and opened his laptop.
Silence consumed them after that. Business usually encouraged them to communicate with one another, but maybe the limit had finally been reached because both parties felt no need to share useless small talk. Once the video began playing, two pairs of eyes followed each and every movement in the screen, both attentive but equally trying to ignore the presence right next to them. When the bot that was being controlled by Seungkwan and Chan reached the top of the table, Cheol stopped the video and finally spoke.
“In this video you will get a glimpse of our supposed traitor so I want you to pay close attention to this next part”
As if on cue, the scene shifted to the image of the man dressed in purple, sitting in the middle of the screen with all of his mysterious glory. Seungcheol felt Minghao freeze right beside him, probably from the shock of such a revelation. He thought the secretary must already be searching in his inner library of knowledge for a certain someone that could fit the few descriptions their traitor had shown them –Minghao had always been smart, that’s why he’d become his trusty right handed man. However, he failed to notice the leg that began bouncing on its spot and the eyes that widened in recognition.
After the video ended, Seungcheol proceeded to explain Jeonghan’s theory: that the members Vernon had poisoned belonged to a completely different organization, one that, as they later came to the conclusion of, was probably in bad terms with LUNA since they’d taken those member’s districts by force and refused to waste money on them. The reason why, as he continued to explain, was still unknown to them. They hoped they’ll figure more out through their line of detectives but so far that idea continued to be their main theory.
When the boss finished explaining, Minghao finally looked at him –ever since the video had stopped he wouldn’t stop staring at the floor–, and then asked something that completely threw him off guard.
“Have you gone to visit them?”
Cheol flinched. “What..? That has nothing to do with this!”
“Just answer the damn question Seungcheol. We’ve already finished discussing all the information available anyway, might as well give some good closure to this meeting.”
He scoffed. “Good closure my ass..” Then he looked away. “..I..haven't.”
A laugh. “Just like I thought.” Minghao said as he stood and picked up his things, completely ignoring the hurt expression the boss wore.
Before he could fully exit the room though, broken words stopped him in his tracks and caused him to turn back around with an indignant frown, as if the question asked was nothing more than an insult to his being.
“Never.” He spat before he left Seungcheol behind with nothing but himself to blame.
If Minghao had asked that question out of nowhere, that meant everything after that was going to go downhill at a very fast pace. How could he ask such a thing when he already knew the answer to it? How had he dared?
“Want to go visit them with me?”
The secretary would rather be sent to hell before stepping foot into the graveyard with Cheol right beside him. They’d lost their friendship forever ago, when he’d decided to send his dear friends to their death. How could he have the audacity to expect their relationship to resurface and become something more than mere boss and secretary?
That night, S.Coups sent Minghao an email, asking him to set up a meeting with snacks and drinks because one of the higher up’s from one of the main branches would visit SVT sometime next week. He stated he wanted those involved in the first meeting to be notified about it, clearly specified where the meeting should take place.
But at the end of the email, the boss made sure to add a little extra something. Something he hoped would bring everything back to normal.
“I’m sorry” He’d written. But he got no reply to his apology.
