It was now early evening, and Mipha was curled up in Sidon's arms, both of them fast asleep. Link had chaperoned them as they spent the day doing as many sibling activities as they could- Link couldn't help but smile as he reminisced of the days when Sidon was a wee 25 years old and they would do these sort of things every other weekend when he came to visit. His attention drifted to a caverns of his own mind as the memories of the happy family life he used to live came to him. Mipha court sure was a nice place to camp out at, even if in times prior it was mostly to grieve. The moon out was full, and it made the statue glow with an ethereal light. If it had been a week prior, he would've thought that it was a sign from her freed spirit that she's still watching over him- now his assurance to himself of this fact was wavering.
"Are you still awake?"
Link jumped up in surprise, instinctively grabbing for the Master Sword. He released his hand when he saw Mipha's red skin in his peripheral vision.
"Oh, I'm sorry, did i scare you?" Mipha whispered, scooting closer to Link in the dark. A cold hand came to rest on his chest as her arms wrapped around him from behind. He shivered at the touch but leaned back into her arms.
"Thank you for taking me to see Sidon. He's grown into such a wonderful man, and his wife is a brilliant lady," Mipha said, a sigh escaping her lips, "If only I'd have been there to see him grow."
"Better late than never," Link whispered.
"I've spent so long away from you all. I'm excited to find out all that has changed," Mipha said. Link chuckled to himself and mumbled something about the world somehow being more dangerous than the Calamity.
"Link. Let's talk about the armour I made for you. I know you have it. I've seen a photo on Zelda's Purah Pad." Mipha said sternly.
Link's eyes went wide when Mipha procured the Purah Pad Zelda left for her. Mipha handed it to him. She watched him open the album and scroll through the pictures Zelda had placed in it for the Zora princess, but at the bottom of the album was a few photos that she'd forgotten to delete- a couple pictures of Bokoblins and a photo of Link praying to a Goddess statue... in the full Zora Armour.
"Link, what are we?"
Link huffed and pulled Mipha's arms closer.
"Mipha, darling..." Link said instinctively. He cringed at his own words.
"Link... I haven't heard that in so long."
"Do you remember when you were a spirit?"
"It comes back to me every short while. I've realised how much I've missed. How much of you I've missed."
"I was worried that none of you missed me. It's selfish, I know, but-"
"Link. I remember weeping for days on end for you to free me. I could feel the others, Link. They cried out for you for so long. Even Revali."
Mipha looked to Link and observed his blank, confused stare. Her heart wept for him. Link tried to fight back tears- tears that he hadn't felt spill since he was a boy.
"I really do love you. But I'm worried that once we become closer again, you won't see they boy you were going to marry a century ago." said Link.
"I can still see the boy in you. The way you've changed has made you stronger, more expressive. You are more deep and reassuring. I felt completely at ease today with you by my side as I caught up on so much lost time... but now I wish to catch up with you, Link," Mipha whispered, her hands gently taking hold of his shoulders.
Mipha turned herself around so that she was sat in front of him and took his hands in hers. Her eyes seemed to sparkle in the light of the moon, and Link was captivated. His hands let go of hers and moved to her face, cupping it in his hands.
"Link..." Mipha mouthed. Their faces got closer, they could feel each others' breath-
"Hm? Are you two awake?" Sidon mumbled, sitting up and rubbing his eyes to adjust to the low light of the night.
The duo seprated, and Mipha's face somehow became a deeper shade of red.
Link awoke again at sunrise, his blonde hair a matted mess and his eyes bleary. He slowly sat up and stretched his arms, letting out a big yawn. He adjusted the Champion's Leathers that were tangled around his torso and stood, shaking his legs and doing some quick star jumps. As he settled down from his waking routine a red hand gently took his shoulder.
"Link. I have something to ask of you."
The Hylian turned around to look Sidon in the eye.
"When the Princess gave you the option to bring one Champion back, who was the first on your mind?" Sidon quietly asked, his face painted with grief.
"Did I open an old wound by bringing Mipha here?" Link countered.
"Of course not."
"I promise you, Sidon, my best friend, she was the first person on my mind. After seeing all I could piece together post Calamity, I fell in love with her again." Link emoted. His heart thumped in his throat and tears threatened to spill.
Sidon sighed and turned his head away. Link remained silent, and awkwardly adjusted his tunic.
"Let's not speak of this again, Link. I trust you and I wish to live a good life with my sister again."
"Yes, let's."
