Chapter Nine

I've been lying here for two hours trying to force myself to sleep. It's almost ten now. I sit up from my bed, exhaustion making my eyes heavy, but I'm too scared to sleep alone. I slip my legs off the bed, being able to hear everything is terrifying. I can hear crickets, leafs crunching, and wildlife singing. Usually I'd like to think those were pretty sounds, but now I feel so uneasy and scared.

I jump a good length away from my bed and scurry away from the edges. I feel like a little kid afraid of monsters under their bed, but that's literally how I feel right now. The feeling of something or someone being under there taking flight in my head. I look in my bag for an extra long shirt, but they are all short and V necks. I can't be in my underwear asking if I can sleep with Scarlett and Riley so I slide on my leggings and exit my room and tiptoe up to Scarlett's room. I'll just cuddle between her and Riley tonight.

I open the door and see Riley lying on Scarletts chest, they're both dead asleep.

Shit, now what do I do?

I close the door silently and look downstairs. I see Seth and Henry asleep on the couches with throw blankets covering them. I don't feel comfortable climbing into Joe's and Harveys bed. They have a history of flirting and giving each other signals that only they can never notice.

I hear a branch snap that makes me jump. I have no other choice. My slow tiptoes turn to fast paced walks towards Silas's room. My heart is thundering against my chest. I hear a ringing sound in my ears. My breathing is uneven. I'm having an anxiety attack. I try to open the door as lightly as I can, but the door makes a small squeaking sound.

Silas stirs awake. "What the hell are you doing in here?" He whispers silently so he doesn't wake up Emma who's cuddling a pillow in her bed.

My face starts to heat up and breathing becomes hard. I walk up to the side of his bed and look down at him. "I didn't mean to wake you up." I say in a whisper.

Silas makes a weird face. "You sound like a stalker, Aurora. What do you want?" He smooths his jet black hair back.

I feel my body grow weaker as I panic. "I'm scared to sleep alone." I admit with a slight shake in my voice.

"Why would you come to me?" He asks, still groggy from being woken up.

I was going to tell him he wasn't my first choice, but he was. I made no effort to sleep in Scarlett's room. I know she'd immediately let me in the bed with her and Riley. I never even tried.

"I just want to feel safe, I'm scared of what's around me." I say with a silent sob escaping through my lips.

Silas shoves his blankets off and grabs my hand and pulls me to sit on the bed. "Hey, you're okay. You're safe in this house." He smooths back my hair.

"I feel like I can't breathe." I whisper while picking at my leggings. "I need to get these off me." I grab my leggings and try to pull them down but blurry dots show up in my vision.
"Okay Aurora, relax." Silas slides out of bed and stands in front of me, he quickly rolls my leggings off my legs which leaves me in my thong, he doesn't even look down. He looks me in my eyes with determination in his voice. He smooths back my hair. "You need to breathe, you're safe."

He gets back into bed and pulls me under the blankets with him and forces my head to lay on the pillow. "Take some deep breaths, you're okay. I've got you." He wraps his arm around my waist.

I don't feel embarrassed or nervous with him right now, I just want to stop feeling like this. I turn on my side and place my body directly fitting how his body is on his side.

My back is braced against his chest, my butt placed on his lap. I'm quite literally forcing him to spoon me.

"Just relax. I've got you." He pulls my head towards himself so my head is lying on the pillow under his chin. We're so close together that I can feel his breath tickling the hairs on the top of my head, he has his arm tightly wrapped around my hips. I can somewhat feel my airway ease. I grip his hand.
