"Changes are fated to happen to everyone Perhaps, how we change is what our undertaking is about" – Moonlight – Agust D
Three days. Three fucking days. That is how long Yoongi has been attempting to teach Taehyung and Jimin the basics – the very basics, mind you – of hunting.
They'd traveled for nearly a week, far southeast of where they'd escaped the alphas, before Yoongi had felt comfortable enough to stop. They set up camp in an old, abandoned den in the depths of a forest he'd been to only twice in the last six years. Both times, he'd only stayed a night or two. Now, it suits their needs perfectly.
There are no nearby settlements, but Yoongi stocked up on supplies along the way. He hopes they can stay here in relative safety for at least the next few weeks so he can teach the two how to blend in and fend for themselves, at least enough to get by should he be injured.
Currently, he's doubting that timeframe as he fights back the urge to snarl at the two omegas who are, yet again, wrestling each other through the trees. Likely scaring all the prey within a mile. But he bites back the irritation. He knows it's not entirely their fault. Island packs didn't teach their pups how to hunt. Rather, they were taught how to fish and cultivate plants, getting most of their red meat through trade. And if they presented as omega, their training ceased. Instead, they were taught to look after a family. And Yoongi can't say he'd been dissatisfied with what those skills had brought to their new 'pack'.
Once he'd shown them what fruits and vegetables were edible in forest, which wasn't much in early spring, they'd taken to gathering what they could every day. And the things Jimin could do with a fire and a pot were downright sinful.
But wolves need meat, and hunting for three is a lot of work. Which is why he really, really needs the omegas to focus. He lets out a loud bark, bringing the two to a halt. They hunker down, sulking back to him, their golden-brown eyes pleading for forgiveness. He tosses his head, once again demonstrating to them the low crawl he had been trying to teach them before Taehyung pounced on Jimin's tail instead of the rabbit they'd been stalking.
Both omegas attempt the position. Their smaller bodies should offer them an advantage in the dense forest, where Yoongi has more trouble moving silently, but they just can't focus. Taehyung keeps shifting his paws impatiently, rustling the bushes and debris around him. Jimin shows a bit more promise but keeps nuzzling or brushing against Tae every time the younger gets restless. In a nutshell, the two of them together are impossible.
Yoongi sighs, yipping to indicate that they are done with the session. The two instantly relax, tumbling together at his feet. He watches them for a few moments, warmth swelling in his chest. He bats playfully at them a few times, earning a sloppy kiss from Taehyung. With a false grumble of annoyance, he shifts. His nude form instantly gains their undivided attention. That is something he still hasn't gotten used to. Nobody has ever looked at him the way they do, not unless they were looking for a confrontation with his teeth. But with them, it just didn't bother him. He likes it.
"I want you two to gather as much food as you can on the way back to the den. Once there, stay there. I'm going to go find us some meat."
They nod their identical sandy brown heads, both rubbing affectionately up against his thighs before trotting off back toward the den. Yoongi watches until he can no longer see their fur through the trees before shifting and heading deeper into the forest, only slightly nervous that it's the first time he's left them alone since the day he'd buried the alphas.
This is ridiculous. I can hunt, fight, and even kill. Six years I've survived on my own without a care for anyone. But two little omegas enter my life and suddenly I'm questioning my very existence.
