Chapter 5:

Capital of Mu, Hampfield
January 31st 1990

The diplomatic envoy sent by the US-Soviet coalition arrived in front of the Harbour
The Ticonderoga-class Destroyer was given permission to enter, followed by the Kynda class missile cruiser. The envoy was welcomeed by multiple guards and representatives of the Mu Empire.
They were then brought to the Diplomatic Headquarters.

"My name is Walter Jackson. Nice to meet you.", The American diplomat introduced himself.
"My name is Ivan Petronov. Nice to meet you too.", The Russian diplomat introduced himself as well.
"I am Edward Bancroft. Nice to meet you two. Take a seat. I am going to be giving you an overview of the Empire of Mu. The Empire of Mu, as it is officially called, is one of five superpowers in this world. It is based upon science and engineering. We believe we were transported to this world about 12000 years ago. I think I should also give you an overview of our ground, naval and air forces. Our ground units consist mostly of rifle infantry. Judging by the ship you used to get here, you seem to know what firearms are. Anyway, we also use artillery in our ground forces. Our air forces consist of aircraft powered by internal combustion engines, and use machine guns to fight other aircraft. They can also provide ground support using small bombs. Our navy consists of battleships, cruisers and destroyers. After this, I think it is most appropriate that you explain where you come from and how your military is structured. Mister Petronov may begin."
"My home country is Russia, which is part of the Soviet Union, a union of states based upon the political idea of communism. Our economy is mostly based upon agriculture and our military. We export military hardware to members of an alliance we call the Warsaw Pact, which all of the Soviet Union member states are part of. Russia itself is the strongest power in this alliance, and is the political centre of the Soviet Union. It has a very centralised government.

"The state I am representing are the United States of America. They are one country, and are on par in terms of technological development compared to the Soviet Union. Whereas the Soviet Union is based on more collectivist ideas, the United States is based upon individualist ideas. The population of the United States is about 300 million people of varying ethnicities. We believe in the freedom of speech, and that one's rights end where others rights start. Our government is based upon the concept of democracy, in which the populations that is eligible for voting votes representatives into power. Citizens are able to vote regardless of gender, political beliefs, religion or ethnicity.
The United States has a wide range of industries, which includes agriculture, manufacturing, military, entertainment, healthcare, logistics, and construction.
It is a very diverse country, with different climate and time zones. We value individual freedoms very highly. Our arrival in this world was not that long ago, and is still unexplained.

"Our military is a combined arms force, which operates under the AirLand Battle doctrine. Our airforce is in fact the most technologically advanced on this planet. The  AirLand Battle doctrine emphasizes close cooperation between maneuvering ground forces and the air force, and is primarily defensive in nature. We are in possession of a few technologies you may find very helpful in both civilian and military applications.

"The United States and the Soviet Union were in an ideological "Cold War", in which
both sides were in an arms race, during which tension was always high, and only recently were these tensions softened."
Jackson ended his introduction.

"What he said is true. This "Cold War" lasted more than 40 years. During this time, we waged proxy wars on each other, and were locked in an arms race, with near constant threat of world encompassing warfare . We are glad this state of affairs has ended."
Petronov explained the implications of the Cold War.

"Very Interesting. But as we can see, you seem to have put your differences aside for now. Right now, our Head of State is discussing with his advisors about what position to take regarding your nations. But I am sure that hostilities will not break out between your Nations and our Empire."

"I hope so, because an attack on either is an attack on both."
Jackson stated.

"I am certain that our Head of State will not see any point in starting hostilities with your alliance. While we are talking about military matters, your ships seem to follow a very strange design philosophy."

"What do you mean?"
Both Petronov and Jackson responded at the same time.

"The large ship that seems to not have any guns. Is it really a warship? How are these white tubes useful in naval combat? The unusual crows nest also confuses me."

"I'm sorry, but what's in the white tubes is classified. Regarding the "Crows Nest", that is a Radio Azimuth Detection and Ranging device, short Radar."

Runepolis, Capital of the Holy Mirishial Empire

The Ticonderoga-class cruiser was spotted by the lighthouse guard, who immediately reported it to the harbourmaster, who reported it up the chain of command, and as such it eventually reached the king, Milishial the VIIIth. Radio contact could not be established, and as such, a patrol boat was sent out. Reports of a strange, grey angular vessel spread like wildfire throughout the capital, causing confusion and chaos, as everyone wanted to see it.

Onboard the Ticonderoga-class cruiser

"Patrol boat, 12 O clock! Hold your fire!"
The captain yelled.

It was obvious that the boat approaching them was not hostile. It was armed with what appeared to be a 3 inch gun at best.
It halted beside the destroyer, and demanded the destroyer identify itself.
"This is the USS Aleigh Burke. We are here to seek diplomatic relations.

Cliffhanger
I know a cliffhanger is cheap, but I have something planned to justify it. For now, I want to release a new chapter so that this series doesn't appear dead.
