The Maraj household was quiet as all three of the family members sat around in the living room.

Robert and Carol had just come back from a business trip in England and were gonna be around for about a couple of days before they had to travel out again.

Onika had spent the whole evening cooking up nice meals for both her parents on hearing they were going to be in the country for the next week, dismissing the help from the cooking staff.

Her parents were barely ever around during her childhood, leaving her to be raised by a bunch of nannies, she always craved the attention from her parents but barely ever got it.

They were always travelling in and out of the country at odd hours, working. As if the money they'd already had was not enough to keep the family legacy for damn near two generations.

So, whenever she got the time to spend with them she always had to milk it for what it was worth, leaving her as the attention seeker and people pleaser amongst her 'friend' group.

The dinner table was nothing short of awkward, but Onika couldn't say she was shocked as it was basically almost always like this.

"Is the food good?" She asked after awhile.

"I mean it's okay, but you could try adding a little less salt." Her mom shrugged.

Less salt next time, okay. She thought looking down at her food.

Her father coughed bringing the attention to him, "I have something I'd like the say." He stated making Onika look over at him in question.

Whilst her mother continued on eating like she already knew what he wanted to say.

"What?" Onika asked.

"I know you've been lonely Onika, I mean being the only child and all and especially since your mother and I are barely ever around..." He said sounding a little guilty towards the end.

"I never said that." she said not liking the guilty feeling in her father's voice, but deep down she did know it was true.

"And that's why I agreed to getting a foster daughter, which leaves you with a foster sister!"

Nicki started choking on water, coughing rapidly.. after finally getting her breath together she looked up at her father.

"No." This was her first time ever opposing her father and no lie she actually felt good about it.

If she gets a foster sister then all the attention would go to her, leaving her even more unnoticeable and unimportant in her parents eyes, she didn't want to have to share her parents with anyone else.

"Too bad, you don't have a choice anyways, It's already too late cause she'll be here tomorrow." He said making Onika want to scream and pull her hair out.

"I don't want a fucking sister, I never said I did!" She said standing out her chair.

"Language." Her mom stated looking at her sternly.

"Oh please you don't have that authority over me, you never acted like you did so don't try start now!"

By now the maids had even started listening in on the argument.
