It took Lance about a year to properly master basics of the steelheart's swordsmanship technique but Sol took merely weeks to master the basics.
As if he was born to weild the sword, the moment he held a sword, Sol displayed ethereal talent for swordsmanship.
Lance couldn't believe his eyes. Even he, himself who was considered a genius in his family paled to Sol's comparison.
Steelheart's swordsmanship required the user to make proper use of his mana to create an aura blade.
A special technique of breathing was required to draw out the mana from within the body towards the sword. After properly releasing mana and coating the sword with a layer of aura, would one really be able to make proper use of Steelheart's swordsmanship.
One could be able to use the footwork techniques and sword techniques of the steelheart's swordsmanship with proper training but if one couldn't release their mana and coat the sword with aura then everything would turn out to be meaningless.
After one could finally be able to apply aura in his sword, only then he could make better use of the steelheart's swordsmanship.
Despite the talent demonstrated by Sol, Lance had doubts about his ability to use aura blade. Afterall even for him, it took 4 years to properly use the aura blade. Thus, on the basis of Sol's talent, he guessed that it would take him at least a year to properly use aura.
Lance himself was quite capable to take down few of the armed guards but he wasn't capable to fight back if they were to gang up on him. And also there was Commander Gilbert who could easily outpower him.
He was well aware that he wouldn't be able to escape the camp depending on his strength alone. Thus, he reluctantly followed their orders and suffered the hellish tortures while waiting for moment he could make his escape.
While they were swinging their swords, suddenly loud sounds of bell reverberated.
"What's this? Is it already dinner time?"
Sol puzzlingly questioned.
It was still around 5 in the evening and dinner were only served at around 8. Thus there were still about 3 hours left for dinner.
And the bells only rang three times during whole day. Every morning at 5 to wake them up, at 12 in the midday to indicate the lunch time and at 8 in the night to indicate dinner time.
Also sometimes it rang for more than 3 times a day to make an announcement.
"May be it's an announcement"
Lance exclaimed.
"What announcement are they going to make this time around?"
Sol sulked and uninthusiasticaly exclaimed.
"Whatever it is we gotta go fast."
Fred spoke as he woke up from his bed.
Fred then walked towards Alfred's bed.
"Look at him snoring. Should we just leave him be?"
Fred exclaimed in disappointment, while looking at Alfred who was snoring loudly in his sleep.
"Wait I've got an idea."
"You two grab the bed and when I start shouting, shake the bed with as much force as you can."
Sol chuckled and explained his idea to Lance and Fred.
They both nodded their head and grabbed the opposite ends of the bed.
"Earthquake! Monsters! Run! Run!"
Sol began to shout.
Fred and Lance started to violently shake Alfred's bed.
"Wha-? What happened?"
Alfred startlingly woke up from his dream and ran towards the entrance of the tent.
Seeing Alfred run, all three of them chuckled and laughed while watching him run.
Just when they were making fun of Alfred's actions, a loud noise came from the outside.
Startled by the loud noise, their smile faded away.
"What's that?"
Fred exclaimed.
The three of them then hurriedly ran towards the entrance of the tent to find out the reason behind the loud noise.
As they stepped outside the tent, they witnessed large swarms of wyverns attacking the camp.
"Wha-? What are those?"
Fred's voice shook in fear.
Sol remained silent but fear was vivid in his eyes. Lance who stood frozen with his eyes open seemed like he knew something about the monsters raiding the camp.
"No! No! No! It can't be"
Lance kept repeating the same word, while looking at the swarms of wyverns ahead.
"Lance? Are you alright?"
Sol called out for him.
But he wasn't responding at all and was repeatedly muttering the same word.
"Yea- No-"
Lance startled as Sol's hand touched him.
As if he just woke from a nightmare, Lance stammered while replying.
With the face of a lizard, giant wings on it's back, sharp claws like that of hawks in their feet, body covered in scales and a long tail, the Wyverns were rampaging around the camp and wrecking havoc.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaa"
All of a sudden, Fred let out a terrifying scream.
Startled by the scream, Sol turned towards Fred.
"What happened Fred?"
"Loo- Look! look over there?"
Fred stammered.
He then pointed his shaky fingers at something. Sol turned his gaze towards the direction pointed by his fingers. At the end of his finger was torn apart lower body.
Only the lower part remained while the body above the waist was missing.
Despite the lack of upper body, they could easily identify to whom those legs belonged to. Afterall the number embedded on the pants was 42, which belonged to Alfred.
Witnessing the corpse of his friend, Fred freaked out and started to run in complete frenzy.
"Fred! Fred, where are you going?"
Sol tried to grab Fred's hand to stop Fred who started to run fanatically. He then chased Fred to stop him.
Right when he caught his hand, a wyvern flew towards them from Sol's blind spot and with it's razor sharp claws, effortlessly ripped the body of Fred infront of his eyes.
He couldn't even freak out due to the unrealistic speed of the incident.
Blood splattered all over him and dyed him in blood red colour. Before he could even blink his eyes, Fred was effortlessly ripped apart.
In state of disbelief, he looked at his hands soaked in blood. There he found the hand of Fred which was severed from it's body.
But surprisingly even after witnessing the death of his friend there was not even a spec of emotion in his face.
While he stood frozen in disbelief, a wooden sword engulfed with mana flew towards him.
But that sword wasn't aimed at him but rather at the wyvern which was charging towards him. The sword hit wyvern in it's eyes.
"Krrr.... grr...."
After getting hit by the sword, the wyvern let out a painful scream.
Upon getting hit in it's eyes, the wyvern flew upwards and away from them.
Lance then quickly grabbed Sol's hand and told him to run. Listening to voice of Lance, Sol came back to his senses and started to run without thinking anything.
As they ran, they encountered countless carcasses. The whole camp was filled with organs and body parts of people which were scattered everywhere. Streams of blood and screams of people filled the whole camp.
The carnage of a scene was too horrifying to look at.
Not only the bodies of the slaves but also the bodies of the guards were scattered everywhere in the camp. The remaining guards were holding their grounds and fighting back.
But something was unusual about the situation. No matter how many of the wyverns the guards killed, more of it were still coming from the far distant horizon.
"May be they're running away from something"
Sol pondered while observing the behavioural patterns of the Wyverns.
"Huh? What nonsense are you speaking? Just keep on running."
Lance furiously yelled at Sol.
After running away for a while, they found themselves infront of the entrance of the camp. But one person still blocked their way outside.
Commander Gilbert was thrusting his swords at the swarms of wyvern. Even the mighty wyvern proved no threat to him.
With the every swing of his sword, he was effortlessly cutting down a pair of wyvern.
"Come at me, you monsters with ugly face."
Even at such dreadful situation, he was laughing, while swinging his sword.
But suddenly he seemed out of his luck, as more than 20 wyverns charged at him at once.
"I'm sure that even he can't handle that many wyverns at once."
Lance exclaimed while looking at Gilbert.
"Wyverns? Are you talking about those monsters?"
Sol puzzlingly questioned Lance.
"Yeah those mosters are called wyverns. I've read about it in books. But till now I only thought of them as mythical creatures which only existed in book. But how wrong I was"
"That explains your previous reaction. Also I guess it's time, we say goodbye to commander Gilbert."
Sol replied.
While they were talking, commander Gilbert rose his sword. As if he was prepared to take on all those wyverns, he assumed a attacking position.
Upon witnessing the swarms of wyvern charging at Gilbert all at once, they both thought that he'd die.
But to their disappointment, as Gilbert thrusted his sword towards the direction of the wyverns, a powerful slash of aura flew towards the wyverns.
All of the wyverns which were charging towards him were wiped out in one single strike of his sword. Even the ground was cut apart and the slash of the sword in the ground stretched out about a kilometre in length.
They couldn't fathom the strength of Commander Gilbert after witnessing his prowess.
