Just as they exited the cave, out of nowhere an arrow came flying towards them. They reacted in time and barely avoided the arrow. But before they could catch a moment of breather, barrages of arrow flung towards them, denying them any moment of rest.
"Run back to cave!"
Sol yelled.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaa"
Lance screamed in pain.
Unfortunately on their way back to cave, an arrow grazed Lance's left leg. But instead of falling down at the place where he was hit, he leaped forward and entered the cave.
Crack!
His landing wasn't a pleasant one as he landed on his hands and crashed himself on the rough surface. Coupled by Ryan's body weight behind his back, he broke a bone of his ribcage.
"Lance? Lance? Are you alright?"
Hearing Lance scream, Sol hurriedly rushed towards Lance to check on his condition.
"I.....'m..... F..i..n...e..."
Lance was having difficulty in speaking. Sol could vividly notice the pain he was suffering through. Without further questioning, Sol quickly removed Ryan who laid on top of Lance. He then rolled Lance with his face facing upwards, to let him breathe.
Cough! Cough! Cough!
Lance started to cough blood all of a sudden. Upon witnessing Lance coughing blood, Sol started to panic.
Just then a sound of horn reverberated. The sound of horn prolonged as if signalling the commencement of a battle.
Step! Step! Step!
The loud noise of horns alerted the goblins. Groups of goblin made their way towards the entrance to check on the commotion.
'What should I do now? Lance is injured and that deadbeat of kid Ryan is unconscious. Infront of me is groups of unknown creatures armed with bow and arrows and behind me is hordes of goblins.'
Sol started to panic as the footsteps of the goblins got louder.
There was no path for escape, he was trapped in the middle of two large groups. The only option was to make use of the darkness of the passage and conceal him in the darkness.
Sol quickly grabbed Lance and Ryan with each hands. He then dragged them towards the wall of the passage and laid in the ground.
He had no place to hide and thus to minimise his presence as much as he can, he laid down with his face facing the ground. If it were under any normal circumstances they might have been noticed right away, but there were just too many distractions present infront of the goblins, for the goblins to notice them.
And moreover the dark passage limited goblins vision as much as it limited theirs.
Just like he had predicted, hordes of goblins made their way towards the entrance. And fortunately they were so engrossed in the commotion ahead of them that they barely paid any attention towards Sol and his gangs, who were hiding in the dark.
But all of a sudden, instead of exiting the cave, the goblin soldiers started to run back. Back to the place from where they came from.
'Huh? Why are they running back?'
Sol was baffled by their unusual movements.
Step! Step! Step!
After they left, Sol heard another batch of footsteps coming from outside the cave. This time the footsteps were more methodical and heavy.
Clank! Clank! Clank!
The sounds of footsteps was followed by sounds of metal clanking against each other.
Taking everything into account, the sound coming from outside the camp resembled an organised armoured group.
As the footsteps got louder, countless dark shadows appeared on the ground infront of the entrance of the cave. With their every steps forward, the shadows got larger until the shadows got absorbed into the darkness.
Groups of people armed in heavy metal armours and weapons made their appearance infront of the cave. Their metal armours reflecting the light from the fire torches illuminated the surrounding around them and made them even more visible.
Contrary to Sol's intuition the bunch who made their way towards the cave wasn't any creature or monster but rather human soldiers.
Soldiers with shield walked infront while guarding the soldiers with bow and arrows behind them. Sticking close to each other and maintaining the formation, they marched forward together. It was perfect combination for to defend and attack at the same time.
Witnessing the human soldiers, Sol started to have hopes of making out alive of the cave.
"Lance we're saved now."
Sol exclaimed with a smile on his face.
Lance wasn't able to speak anything due to his injuries. Sol then stood straight and walked forward while raising his hands up.
"Help us sir. Please save my friend, they are injured."
Sol pleaded while moving forward.
"Who? Who are you?"
One of the soldier questioned in a harsh tone.
The other soldier raised their shield and positioned their bow and stretched the arrow towards him.
"Stop moving or we'll shoot you."
"Please don't shoot sir. I'm not an enemy."
Sol stopped his movement.
"State your name and the country you come from."
The soldiers were suspicious of Sol's identity.
"I'm Sol and I'm a citizen of Surya empire."
Sol replied back.
"Do you have any weapons with you?"
"Yes sir, I have a sword."
"Drop your weapon and kneel down on the ground with your hands raised"
The soldier commanded.
Without any resistance, Sol dropped his weapon and knelt down with his hands raised. The soldiers then cautiously walked towards him.
As they got closer towards him, one of the soldier with the shield quickly took the weapon and pinned him down despite his non-resistance.
"Argh! Sir you're hurting me."
Sol pleaded in pain.
Sol was pinned down with his face against the ground. The soldier was applying constant pressure on his neck with his knees and squeezing him from the behind.
Two soldier hurriedly ran towards Lance and Ryan, who were unconscious. Lance was severely injured and heavily bleeding. The broken bone had penetrated his heart.
"Sir we've secured the boy and he's still alive. But there's another boy here sir, who looks extremely serious."
One of the soldier reported.
The groups of soldier scattered around forming a path. From within the path made by the scattered soldiers, a person with golden moustache made his way towards Sol while carrying a metal helmet in his right hand.
With a long face, blue eyes and fair complexioned skin, the person was dressed in shiny metal armour from top to bottom. A scabbard rested on the right side of his waist. In his left arm he carried a metal shield with a peculiar design embedded on it. A symbol of sun was displayed at the shield.
The symbol of the sun contained a big red circle in the middle and countless spiky lines around the red circle.
"Did you find the two girls?"
The soldier with the golden moustache questioned.
"No sir, they are nowhere to be seen."
"Go search for them."
The soldier with golden moustache yelled.
He then turned his attention towards Sol who was pinned down by one of the soldiers.
"So- Now then. What did you say your name was?"
He squatted down and started questioning Sol.
"Huff! Huff!"
Sol couldn't speak because of the soldier above him who pressed his neck.
"Give him some space to breathe, will ya?"
The soldier with the golden moustache turned his head towards the soldier who pressed Sol's neck and casted a glance.
The soldier then raised his knees a little and loosened his grip.
"Huff! Huff! It's Sol sir."
Sol replied, breathing heavily.
"That's a nice name boy. Sol meaning sun. I like it"
He let a wry smile.
Just when he was about to speak more, one of the soldier interrupted him.
"Sir we couldn't find the girls. But there's a path leading inside the cave."
The soldier with the golden moustache dropped his smile and coldly glared at Sol. The atmosphere around him changed.
"Now- tell me where have you hidden the girls?"
The soldier with golden moustache questioned him coldly.
If stares could stab someone then Sol would have already been stabbed by multiple swords and died. Sol could vividly feel the cold stares he was getting just by listening to the voice of the soldier who was questioning him.
"Sir I don't know what you are talking about. Perhaps you're talking about Lisa and Amy?"
"Yes I'm talking about them. Tell me how did you know about them?"
"I just coincidentally encountered them at the forest, sir. And they were in trouble when I met them, so I happened to help them and got acquainted to them, sir. Trust me sir, I'm speaking the truth."
Sol didn't mention anything about the prank he had played on them. Despite speaking the truth, the soldier with the golden moustache stared at him as if he was already guilty in his eyes.
"We'll know once we find the girls."
The soldier with golden moustache shrugged.
"Maintain the formation soldiers, we'll be heading further deep into cave."
He ordered.
"And you boy, don't try anything funny or else your head will leave it's position from your neck."
The soldier with golden moustache threatened Sol.
"Also somebody treat that boy with injuries, he's a suspect as well."
The groups of soldier then made their way towards inner cave in a methodical order.
