After listening to Lance, Sol doubtfully looked at the boy. He narrowed his eyes and kept them fixated at the boy.
Without uttering any words, he kept on analysing the boy.
'His clothes do look expensive and he does seem like he's from a well off family'
While looking at the boy, he pondered.
He then furtively casted his glance at the two rude girls. They were too dressed in fine looking clothes. One of them was dressed in a red gown while the other was dressed in a sky blue gown.
Not too much revealing yet not too much unrevealing. The dress left their shoulder mostly uncovered and flowed down in a graceful sweetheart neckline. It was a tight fit which gave the dress a relaxed, yet graceful look.
The gown paired up with a white glove looked extremely extravagant.
Sol was too much distracted by their hypocritical talk that he hadn't paid much attention towards their attire and face.
But after calmly analysing them, he finally found them noble like. And each and every single one of them were unbelievably good looking.
"I get it that you're from a noble family but who are these two girls? Are they your sisters?"
Sol inquired the boy.
Before Ryan could reply, the girl in the red gown interrupted.
"Just name your price for saving us and we'll pay you handsomely."
Listening to her arrogant talk, Sol's eyes twitched and his face contorted.
"Yeah just name your price and we shall pay you. Either way you look like peasants, so I'm sure that you're after our money."
As if the arrogant behaviour of the girl with the red gown wasn't enough, the girl with the blue gown added oil to the burning fire.
"So what if we look like peasants? We saved you because it looked to us that you needed help not because we wanted your money. Infact we don't even know you."
With a vividly irritated look on his face, Lance butted in.
Witnessing the flustered Lance, Sol stopped his movement.
Lance who had protected them despite their arrogant talks, seemed extremely flustered this time around.
"Lisa, Amy, you both stop it."
Ryan raised his voice.
Upon listening to his voice filled with anger, the two girls immediately shut their mouth. Nobody had expected that kind of attitude from the meek looking boy that Ryan was.
Even Sol and Lance were left dumbfounded by his hidden persona.
"We're really grateful for what you did. But still we would like to show our appreciation to you for saving our life."
Suddenly the air around the meek looking boy started to change as he spoke in a confident tone.
Nobody could believe that he was the same boy who had stayed silent all those times.
Unresponsive and frozen in their place, Sol and Lance remained utterly speechless.
"May I ask what your names are?"
The boy inquired.
Sol and Lance kept on staring at the boy without responding anything.
"Sir? Sir?"
"Huh? Uhh.. Were you saying something?"
Coming to his senses, Sol mumbled.
"Yeah, if it's okay with you. May we know your names?"
"I'm Sol and that guy with the blond hair is Lance."
Sol introduced him and Lance.
"Huh guy? I thought that she was a girl."
"Pft- Hahaha. Looks like we're not the only ones. Hahaha"
Sol burst out in laughter.
"Argh- Quit making fun of me."
Lance expressed his irritation.
As they argued with each other, the boy looked at them quizzically. Unable to understand what was going between those two, he stood frozen.
"Haha... Sorry about that, but no matter how much feminine he looks, he's a dude."
Sol sniggered and apologized.
"Okay! Okay! That's enough laughing. He gets it now, so you can stop now."
"Also we should probably leave this place, it's not safe around here and there might still be unknown dangers lurking around us."
Lance suggested.
There was some truth in Lance's statement, the forest was still a dangerous place where many monsters wandered aimlessly. And it wasn't a strange occurrence for a monster to pop out of nowhere.
Some might wonder why didn't the empire eradicate the monster which inhabited so close to the capital city. But it wasn't because the empire hadn't tried to eradicate the monsters.
Infact the empire had launched countless expeditions to eradicate the monster inhabiting the forest beside the capital. But no matter how many times they raided the forest, there was no end to the monsters.
It was like as if there was some kind of portal hidden in the forest from where the monster spawned infinitely.
Mostly the monsters which inhabited the forest were simply animals which had undergone minor mutations. But there were few rare instances when some people would encounter a completely new monster.
The one who'd make it out alive would then spread the news regarding the new monster and the one's who wouldn't make it alive wouldn't get the chance to spread the news regarding the new monster. Thus, there were simply too many types of monsters in the forest which were simply unknown to the general population.
The forest was extremely unpredictable. And even the walls around the capital was built as a precautionary measure against the monsters which inhabited the forest.
"What were you actually doing in the forest? And if I'm not wrong, you should have guards who'd protect you. But when we encountered you, there were no guards?"
Lance exclaimed while moving along the forest.
"We were returning back from the academy. And yes, we were with our guards."
"You were?"
Sol bewilderingly exclaimed.
"Yes the same monsters which you fought against."
"Huh??"
Sol was confused by Ryan's explanation. To him it did look like something was strange from the beginning. The simple fact that the monster resembled a human and also the fact that they were carrying weapons.
Joining the pieces of puzzle piece by piece as he brainstormed his mind while remembering every tiny details from the beginning, the puzzle started to take shape. And the whole situation started to get clearer. But despite that, he felt like he had been missing a piece of the puzzle. He couldn't still figure out how they turned into monster.
"But how did they turn into monster?"
Sol questioned.
"I'm not sure about that either. But before they turned into monster we encountered an unknown creature in the forest. A bat like creature bit one of our guards when they tried to fend of the creature."
"Nothing happened to him in the beginning and we tended to his wounds. We kept on moving forward but after sometime he started to get extremely sick. His complexion started to change, his pupils started turning grey. Worried that he was getting a fever, one of our guard went to check on him but he then out of nowhere bit the guard who went to check on him."
"And before we could react, the whole squad of guard turned into monsters. We ran to avoid the monster but we're no match for them. After running for a while, we thought that we had escaped from them. But suddenly they surrounded us and we had no path to escape."
Ryan explained in great detail about the incident which took place without leaving behind a single thing.
Ryan then leaded them towards his carriage which they had abandoned while escaping from the hordes of monsters.
After listening to Ryan, Sol finally found the missing piece of the puzzle. And as he put together all those pieces of puzzle together, everything started to become clear.
Like Lance, Ryan and the two girls were returning from the academy. Accompanied by their guards, they were headed towards the capital. Suddenly a bat like creature ambushed them while they were on their path towards the capital.
While fending off the creature one of the guard got bitten by the creature. Later on he started to show signs of mutations. While checking on him, he bit the other guard. The guard inturn bit another guard and slowly all the guards turned into monsters.
Sensing danger Ryan and his party made an escape. But they were surrounded instead. The remaining guards which hadn't turned into a monster fought with the monster to protect Ryan and his parties.
But the green monsters turned out to be too much powerful for them to fight back. Witnessing the overbearing strength of the monsters, Ryan and his party members fell into a state of horror and depression. They simply gave up on their hopes of making out alive.
But by stroke of luck, around that time Sol and Lance appeared before them. Sol and Lance then fought against the monsters.
But despite that Ryan was simply too much traumatized to speak or perform anything. Traumatized by the monsters, he remained motionless and mummified.
In hopes of making out alive, he glanced at Sol and Lance while they were fighting the monsters. But around the time he glanced at them, they were struggling to fight against the monsters. He then started to get more hopeless. Thus, he couldn't react at all when Sol asked them to do something instead of remaining there frozen.
