Adam was tired as he stood half awake next to his dad. The hustle and bustle of the field were familiar to his ears.
"Let's go one on one from the top! Jackson... take a long stick today. Atta boy." Coach ordered with a blow of his whistle.
"You, bench." He said nudging Adam gently to wake him up a bit.
"If I don't practice I can't play." Adam argued with his dad.
"If you don't sleep you can't practice. You're gonna get hurt. Bench." He told him sternly. Adam groaned and started a brief staring contest. It ended quickly however when his dad blew air in his face.
"Fine!" Adam shouted throwing his hands up in the air. Bobby smiled and shook his head before turning his attention back to the field. Adam walked over to the bench falling flat against it propping one leg and shutting his eyes.
"He's not letting you practice?" Lydia asked as she took a seat next to his head.
"He said if I'm not sleeping I don't need to practice because I could get hurt." He told her honestly.
"So why don't you come over tonight? You always sleep better when you're not alone, and my mom misses you anyway." Lydia offered.
"And hear it from Jackson again, I think I'll pass. Besides you know what it's like whenever I see your mom." Adam told her with a smile.
"When will you both straighten up and get together?" They said together mimicking Lydia's mom with a laugh.
"One of these days people will realize you're more into blondes." Lydia joked.
"Careful now, aren't you always the one saying you're a strawberry blonde and not ginger? Blonde is kinda in the title. Now that I think about it you are hot maybe we should get together, we could have like 15 kids or something." Adam teased her.
"Stop! I hate you." She told him as she stood up. Adam blew a kiss to her only to get one back as she walked away from the field. The loud gasp of secondhand pain brought Adam's attention back to the field to see Jackson rolling around on the ground.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Coach called out as everyone approached him.
"Hey man, look here." Adam told him sapping his fingers in Jackson's face and pulling his attention.
"It's my shoulder." Jackson gaped out.
"Take him to the hospital." Coach ordered helping Adam pull him to his feet. Adam nodded and pulled Jackson off to the locker room to get his keys.

Adam sat in the waiting room in the hospital bouncing his leg.
"Adam, how bad is it have you heard anything yet?" Jackson's mom called out once she spotted him.
"Not yet they just took him back for an x-ray." He told her. She nodded and sat down in the chair next to him.
"How have you been hun? Still getting bad headaches?" She asked him after a moment of silence.
"They're better now, not as often." He told her yawning.
"Why don't you get home? You look like you haven't slept in days. I'll tell Jackson you left." She told him feeling his head for a fever.
"Thank you." He told her handing her Jackson's keys and getting up. After a quick text to his dad, he walked out front and waited for him to pick him up.

The next day at school was a bit of a blur like all the rest. He was sat looking blackly at the chalk bored as Scott and Lydia solved separate problems on it. He couldn't tell what was being said but he could tell by Lydia's moments she was giving Scott a hard time.
"What did you say." Adam asked as Lydia took her seat next to him.
"Just told him he needed to play because he hurt Jackson and you are out for this game." She answered with an innocent expression on her face.
"You need to be nice. It was an accident." Adam told her shaking his head with a slight laugh.
"I am nice. I put up with you." She told him with a grin.
"You would be an angel if you could help me study for this class." He said showing her his posted grade. Lydia winced slightly and nodded.
"I have to go with Jackson after school for a check up but ill let you know when I get home." She told him.
"I appreciate it. You know brains are sexy I don't know why you don't show them off." He teased her.
"I like it better this way, people don't expect anything from me." Lydia told him with a shrug. After class, Lydia and Adam bumped into Allison.
"There are some people o want to introduce you to." Lydia told her looping their arms together.
"So what's the story between you two?" Allison asked taking note of Adam's arm looped through Lydia's other one.
"We grew up together, our moms had been best friends since kindergarten. Before you ask no we've never been together." Lydia explained.
"We grew up taking bubble baths together once you grow up seeing the birthmark on her ass it's hard to see her as anything else but a friend." Adam teased her.
"Shut up. Nothing is wrong with it!" Lydia shouted slapping him on the arm.
"It looks like a tadpole." Adam whispered loudly to Allison who laughed at their joking manner while Lydia pouted. Lydia's pout was replaced with a smile as she pulled a member of the team to the side and started introducing him to Allison. The conversation was short because when Scoot approached them Lydia pulled Adam away.
"Why do I feel like that was conniving?" He asked her.
"Because it was." She told him with a smug smile. Adam sighed and shook his head following behind her.
"Okay, I have to go." She told kissing his cheek before running off the Jackson. Adam rolled his eyes and smiled before walking back inside the school to find his dad.

A few hours after school ended Adam pulled into Lydia's driveway. He hesitated slightly before knocking on the front door.
"Adam!" Natalie cheered as she opened the door.
"Why are you knocking?" She asked him pulling him inside.
"I haven't been over in a while. It felt needed." He told her with a shrug.
"It's never needed. I wish you would visit more, it's like I lost the both of you." She told him tears pooling in her eyes.
"I'll do my best. I'm sorry." He told her pulling her into a hug.
"Let's not make it sad he came over because he's failing math." Lydia called out.
"You used to be so good at math, what happened?" Natalie asked him.
"He hasn't been sleeping well, I tried to get him to stay over but he is so stubborn." Lydia told her mom crossing her arms smugly at Adam.
"Backstabber." Adam told her flatly.
"I'm calling your dad to tell him you're spending the night." Natalie told him before walking off.
"I win, let's go study." Lydia cheered pulling Adam up the stairs to her room.

Adam hated to admit that Lydia was right. He woke up the next morning with his head buried in her side feeling rested for the first time in a long time.
"We have to get up. The game is tonight." Lydia told him.
"How long have you been awake?" Adam asked her rolling over to stretch.
"About an hour." She said shrugging.
"What time is it?" He asked through a yawn.
"12:45." She answered.
"I gotta go." He said yawning once more and pulling himself out of bed.
"Want a ride home?" She asked him turning her head so he could change.
"I brought my car actually." He told her. Lydia snapped her head in his direction.
"You drove here?" She asked him smiling.
"Yeah, I'm trying to move forward. Dad thinks it's a good idea to start here." He told her sitting down to put his shoes on.
"It's a very good idea, I'm proud of you." She told him with a smile.

Parking at school was strange, to say the least. Walking up to the field Adam nudged his dad.
"You look good." Booby said ginning rubbing his thumb over the slightly smaller circles under his son's eyes.
"I don't feel like the dead right now." He told him shrugging.
"I'm glad. Did you drive here?" He asked looking around for Lydia to see if they arrived together.
"Yeah, I think I'm gonna try and bring myself to school from now on. Mom did pick the car out so she would be pissed if I let it rot." Adam joked lightly bringing a sad smile to his dad's face before he turned and made his way to the bench. Adam sat flipping through his dad's playbook glancing up every now and then to see Jackson tossing Scott around.
"Did the opposing team just deliberately pass us the ball?" Coach asked leaning down between Adam and Stiles.
"Yes, I believe so, Coach." Stiles answered bringing Adam's attention back to the field.
"Interesting." The coach said nodding with an amazed smile as Scott scored a goal ripping a hole through the goalie's net. Adam smiled as the team rushed to the field to congratulate Scott. The last play of the game ended in their victory as everyone cheered and celebrated. Adam hung back to avoid the noise, not wanting to cause distress on his finally rested body.
