Chapter 5 ⚜ The Tell

After the double date, Jackson drives me home as I open the door, Caroline standing putting her hand on her waist "Well Miss Lydia, you are late"

I put my bag on the table "Okay, Mama. I was on a double date"

Liz walks out of the dining room "Actually the real mom came to check on you" 

I smile "Mama" I run to hug her as she hugs me back "I missed you so much"

Liz kisses my forehead "Me too, sweetie"

Caroline smiles "I feel jealous" She runs and joins in the hug while Bobby watches us smiling at the library doorway.

In the dining room, Bobby, I, Liz, Caroline, and Sam sit around the table, Sam wonders "How was your job trip, Liz?"

Liz smiles "Good, Job as usual nothing new, How are you with your senior year?"

Caroline rolls her eyes and whispers to me "Oh here we go"

Sam answers "Great, I'm doing good and I have an A as a degree so I can go to College"

I whisper to Caroline "Yeah, how is everything, I'm Mr. Perfect"

Liz smiles warmly at him "You will achieve your goal, son" She looks at us "Maybe you two stop making jokes and behave, Learn how to be like him not so mean"

I and Caroline share a look as we look at our plates, and we say together "Sorry"

Bobby says "Oh god someone stops them, I don't know how I will do without you, Liz"

Liz smiles "I can handle the two ladies, Bobby" she looks at Sam "Sam, I talked to the college, they need your paper"

Sam widens his eyes "What? Stanford" he smiles and then looks at me.

Bobby smiles "Congrats, boy"

I stare at Sam and tear fall from me surprise that he wants to leave the town. 

Caroline looks at me sadly and smiles at him "Congrats, Sam"

Liz says "I want you to come with me next week for the exam, call your dad"

I give him a fake smile "Good luck, Sammy" I stand and take the empty plates "excuse me" I head to the kitchen.

In my room, I sit in the armchair and stare at the broken clock on the dresser. I hear knocking at my door "Come in"

Sam walks in "Hey"

I wonder "Do you want anything?"

Sam clothes the door and sits on the bed "Aren't you happy with the scholarship?"

I smile "No, I'm very happy, you deserve it, you made a huge effort to study"

"Lydia, do you think Dad would agree?"
