Allison pulls her car to the curb in front of the Singer's house and turns to me "I need you to promise you won't say anything about what just happened."

"I'll promise not to say anything about what just happened if you can tell me what the hell just happened."

"It's kind of complicated."

"How about you start with why Derek was there? Where Jackson went? What was wrong with Erica?" Allison struggles in silence "Need a minute to come up with a plausible lie? do you forget that my father is a hunter"

"Part of the reason I'm asking is because Scott and I aren't supposed to be seeing each other. Okay? So it's better if you keep what you know to yourself."

"Fine. I'll keep what I know about you and your boyfriend--which is nothing--to myself" I open the door trying to get out.

Allison grabs me pulling me back "He's not just my boyfriend. You get that, right?"

"Let me go"

"Can you try for one second to remember___"

"Remember what?"

"What it feels like. All the times in school when you see him down the hall and you can't breathe until you're with him. Or in class when you can't stop looking at the clock because you know he's standing out there waiting. Don't you remember how that feels?"

I look at her remembering Sam "No"

"What do you mean no? You've had boyfriends"

"None like that" I pull free without another look back I get out and slam the door shut but I stopped in my tracks and back to Allison looking through the car window "Allison" she looks at me "I have Sam Winchester but it was for him just one nightstand. A year ago, he never said that he loves me so forgive me if I won't like what you're saying" I walk away.

The back door to the Singer's home clicks open. Barefoot, I let the family dog, a well-coiffed terrier named Rumsfeld, out into the yard.

While it disappears into the shadows, I wait, hugging myself in the cold and calling out "Let's go, Rumsfeld. You're all twenty pounds. There's only so much that can come out of you" Barking echoes from the darkness, low and distant "Rumsfield? Let's go!"

The barking rises and then abruptly stops "Rumsfield?" Stepping into the yard, I approach the edge of the woods.

After a moment of ominous silence, I'm no longer irritated. I'm frightened. Beginning a cautious retreat back to the house, a sound makes me pause.

Footsteps crushing leaves. But not the pattern of four paws. It's the one-two rhythm of a person. Breath caught in my throat, I take a fearful step back as someone walks right out of the darkness.

Junior wonders "Lose something?" Rumsfield nestled comfortably in his arms, the Junior from school offers me his most charming smile.

Under the trellis at the back door of my house, I swat my terrier, Rumsfield, back inside and return my attention to Junior "So should I call the police or do you have a non-rapist explanation for being in my yard in the middle of the night?"

"I heard him barking. And I live in the house back there. Is that okay? Or should I start running."

I peer ahead but can't see any shape of a house through the trees "Well, thanks for bringing him back" I move to close the door.

"Everything okay?"

"Okay meaning what?"

"Meaning are you all right?"
