Embracing the Unspoken

Year 20:

The sun painted a warm glow over the town as Vera and Jace strolled, secretly wanting to hold each other's hand, their laughter blending with the gentle breeze. They explored the familiar streets, reminiscing about their shared memories and discovering new corners of their hometown.

Vera couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment as they wandered aimlessly, lost in each other's company. Jace seemed different now, more open and vulnerable than ever before. The weight of their unspoken emotions lingered between them, ready to be unveiled.

Vera: (nervously) So, Jace, how have you been here all these years? Sabi nila Saide, ever since my family move to Manila hindi ka na nila nakikita dito.

Jace: I've been good, Tofu, is just that, I purposely didn't come here kasi naalala kita. I'm truly missing having you around.

Vera: Why didn't you tell me that? Halos isang taon na tayong nag uusap virtually but I feel like there's so much we need to catch up on.

Jace: (smiling) That's because I'm afraid, Tofu. Natatakot ako na the moment I told you those words, I would beg you to come back and maybe disrupt your new life in the city.

Vera: But I've missed you too. Even during those years, I secretly hoped that you would someday express the same emotions.

Jace: I'm sorry.

Vera: It's okay. Tama na nga yung drama! It's been such a long time since we last saw each other in person. So, let's cherish these moments happily.

Jace: You're right... It's strange how we're in the same town, yet it feels like we're worlds apart.

Vera: (softly) Totoo, it's as if a part of me was missing, and only now that I'm back here, do I realize how much I longed for your presence.

They walked in comfortable silence for a while, each lost in their own thoughts, their souls yearning to bridge the gap that time had created.

Jace: (pausing) Vera, there's something I've wanted to give you, something that symbolizes the journey we've been on, both individually and together.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box, handing it to Vera with a mix of anticipation and vulnerability.

Vera: (curiously) Ano to, Jace?

Jace: (smiling) Open it and see.

Vera carefully opened the box, her eyes widening in awe as she spotted a wonderfully carved compass within. Its beautiful surface glistened in the sunlight, and she noticed a heartfelt engraving on the back.

Vera: (reading) "May this compass constantly guide you to the path of happiness." Jace, this is... It's lovely (teary-eyed). Thank you!

Jace: (gently) I wanted to give you something that would remind you to follow your heart, to always seek happiness, no matter where life takes you. You've always had a way of finding the silver lining, even in the darkest of times, and I want that light to guide you.

Vera felt her heart swell with gratitude and love. She looked up at Jace, their eyes meeting in a moment of shared understanding.

Vera: (whispering) Thank you, Jace. This gift means more to me than words can express. It's a symbol of our journey and the connection we've always had.

Jace: (softly) You're welcome, Vera. It's a reminder that wherever life leads us, we will always find our way back home.

As they reached a charming cafe nestled on a quaint street corner, Jace led Vera inside. The cozy atmosphere and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloped them. Jace had a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, clearly hiding a secret.
