"Hey, Momma?," The raveonette asked curiously. "What's it like being all grown up?"
The woman smiled kindly. "Well, honey... It's quite wonderful! Sometimes it can be a little stressful but otherwise it's great," She sighed happily. "And one day, my dear, you'll meet the perfect boy... And he'll treat you like a princess... Just like how I met your Daddy."
They frowned a little, grabbing the edge of their covers and pulling it up a little. "But, Momma, what if I don't wanna be a princess? I wanna be the knight! I wanna slay all the monsters and ride on dragons!" The woman's peacefully tranquil expression turned icy quite fast. "No, honey, you're not a boy... You're supposed to be the princess, not a knight or a prince, that's how it works."
"But-."
"Hush, no more arguing, it's time to go to sleep" She snapped sternly, smoothing out the ruffles of her skirt as she stood up.
"Yes, Momma... Goodnight..."
"Thank you, dear, sleep well."

"Hey, Dream, guess what!" She said as her friend answered facetime, holding up the phone as she stood in front of the bathroom mirror. "Hey, Sap!," The boy replied just as cheerfully, just sitting cross-legged on his bed. "What happened?"
She held up the scissors and showed them to her friend, best friend, with a grin that stretched across her cheeks. "I'm finally gonna cut my hair real short... It's getting way too long and I don't wanna keep brushing it." She giggled, setting the phone down on the sink and leaning it against the wall, making sure that it was propped up enough in order to keep her in frame of the camera. "Aww, I kinda liked your long hair," Dream said thoughtfully. "I haven't really met any guys who kept their hair long, they always cut it as soon as it brushes against their shoulders... And you look nice with it... NOT THAT IT'S THE ONLY THING- you know what I mean! Shit... You'll still look good without it, dude, go for it!" He stammered, trying to back track with blushing cheeks, voice filled with almost shameful embarrassment at his out-spoken words.
"Yeah, I know...," She sighed. "But, like, it's way down past my shoulders and it hangs over my chest, I don't like that, it gets annoying to brush all those curls sometimes..." He just nodded along to her words, seeming to understand the inconvenience. "Alright, well, let's just hope that you don't mess up!" He laughed.
Sapnap grabbed the ends of one side of her hair and kept it between pinched fingers, internally measuring how long she really wanted it and how much she would need to cut. "How do you feel about this? I think that this is a pretty good length." She mumbled, moving her fingers up until they were just above her ears.
Dream quickly started nodding his head, grinning as he gave a double pair of thumbs up. "Perfect! That's just about at long as mine is and I think that it'll suit you!" Sapnap returned the smile with one of her own, trying to convince herself that this was for the best, trying to rid herself of the anxious guilt. "Okay..." She whispered, mostly to herself more than anyone else, and lined the scissors up.
She squeezed her eyes shut as she cut the hair, wincing slightly as she felt some of it drop onto her shoulders and drift down towards the floor. "How... How does it look so far?" Sapnap asked as she pried a single eye open to look in the mirror, immediately expecting him to hate the results. "You look great, keep going!" Dream said with encouragement, cheering his best friend on.
"Okay! Just tell me when I get my line-up even with the other side." She replied with growing excitement, starting to love the way that she looked with short and messy hair. Sapnap continued to lop off large swatches of the dark locks with the help of Dream, trimming various areas until everything was somewhat even, and settled for it being just good enough.
"Now, i'd recommend giving it a quick wash in the sink, just shampoo and conditioner with a bit of warm water, then blow-drying it and giving it a quick brush with your bare hands, no actual hairbrush or comb." Dream said, nodding along with approval as Sapnap dropped the scissors onto the side of the sink and turned the tap on, getting her hair wet until it was dripping before scrubbing some shampoo into it.
After finishing the routine advice, Sapnap looked at herself in the mirror with pride, glad to finally feel like she... Like the person looking back at her was really her... And it was great. "Okay, this is wonderful, i'm just gonna cut a few little spots so that it's more even!" She laughed happily, soaking in Dream's praise with a grin larger than life itself.
"How do I look?" She asked
"Perfect." He smiled
Just as she went to respond, she heard heavy footsteps coming towards the bathroom, and quickly scrambled to end the facetime before shoving her phone into her pocket, realising too late that she was still holding the scissors. A man stormed in and took one look at the hair on the floor before glancing up at the raveonette with a hiss. "What the fuck did you do to your hair!?"

Sapnap awkwardly stood on the edge of the courts while droplets of rain occasionally hit the ground, hugging her sketchbook close to her chest and sighing as she glanced around the school's playground. Two other girls were huddled together not too far away, whispering behind their hands as they looked over at her from time to time, conspicuously pointing and snickering.
"Hey, you see that girl over there?" The first one asked in a voice barely above a whisper. "Yeah..?" The second replied just as quietly, leaving Sapnap having to strain to hear their conversation.
"Her father was arrested last night, I heard it, their apartment is just above ours..." She said. "Ooo... Why?" They asked excitedly, obviously wanting in on the 'gossip'. "Well, apparently her Dad hit her because she cut her hair really short... My Mom heard the yelling and crying while she was making dinner, she ended up calling the cops and I saw them leading him away from out of my bedroom window!"
The second girl gasped, intrigued by the news. "Really? You saw? That must be SO embarrassing! What did her Mom do about it?"
"Nothing! She just kind of stood there and ignored it, I heard her... She was upset that the kid cut her hair as well, I also heard that they might be sending her away because neither of them could get custody of her, that's gotta be SO awkward."
"Yeah but, like, where are you hearing this?," The other asked, slightly confused. "Surely they don't just discuss this out in your apartment hallways."
"My Mom was talking with the cops, she brought up custody issues because she was worried about safety or something, and, like, the police officer said that they'd most likely have the kid go and live with other relatives or something... Or, maybe, stay with the Mom if she can redeem herself" She replied, prompting her friend to look over at the raveonette. Sapnap self-consciously pulled her hood up and stared at the ground, a singular tear slipping out from the corner of her eye as she pressed a hand to her cheek and felt the tenderness of the area where she'd been slapped, it still stung pretty badly and she honestly just wanted to go home...
Home..?
She didn't have a home anymore...
