"But daddy, I ain't goin' to no...ballet recital!"

"Son, don't you remember Mr. Mathieu? It's his daughters big night! You are my son I want you to be there..you know represent me." Vernon Presley yells at his son.

"Look daddy, I love you and mama to the moon and back...but I ain't goin to no ballet recital. I've got a date with Dixie tonight! Do you even wanna go."  The tall blonde says.

"No..your mama was invited but she wants us to go since she can't due to her foot. She needs the rest."

Gladys Presley hurt her foot after dropping a heavy pan on it while cooking in the kitchen a few days ago.

"Come on, son! The girl is about your age."

Elvis had a long but short thought about the recital. He sure as hell didn't want to go...but anything for his dear mama Gladys.

"Alright I'll go." Elvis says, scuffing and running his fingers through his hair.

"Good...the show starts at 7:30. We got a 2 hours to get the girl some flowers and be on our way."

"Alright, daddy."

Vernon rubs the shoulder of his son as he walks past him and down the hall.

"Daddy?"

Vernon stops at the middle of the stairs to look at his son in confusion.

"Yes, Elvis?"

"Who..is Mr. Mathieu's again?"

Vernon let out a sigh.

"Your mothers, friends, husband. Her friend Deena died a few years back but she'd known her and her daughter from ShakeRag in Tupelo. Deena was the only one who talk to your mama. Gladys feels...she owes it to Deena to be there for her baby."

Then after that Vernon walked down the hall to his and Gladys shared room.

Elvis had never heard or seen these people in his 19 years of living. But if they were a friend of his mama's they meant a lot to him.

An hour later, before Elvis and his father left for the flower shop, he called Dixie.

"I know, baby I'm sorry. It's just..she's my mama's friend-"

"She?! Another girl? We ain't goin' to the drive in tonight, because you gonna go see another girl, you don't even know?"

"Honey, I'm sorry-"

"Don't call this number again."

With that the line went dead.

"What the hell?"

Elvis looked at the phone, eyebrows in a knot. What the hell is her problem? He thought.

"You ready to go, son?"

"Yeah, I'm ready. Dixie's bein' salty. She broke up with me." Elvis says, running his hand throw his blonde locks.

"Over that?" Vernon says in disbelief.

"Yes! And I don't understand why! She knows how much i care about mama. Let's just get the flowers." Elvis scuffs and walks out the door to his crown electric truck as Vernon follows behind.

The pair get in the truck and drive off.

Elvis had told Dixie about how his mama always came first in his life no matter what. It hurt him that Dixie couldn't understand that. He loved that girl. But disrespect his mama...your dead to him.
