yeonjun immediately rushed home, his mind running in every possible direction. he was pretty sure his father wasn't supposed to be home until a couple of days, so why the sudden return?

a dreading thought crossed his mind. what if he had found out about him and soobin? what if he had found out that they weren't just ordinary friends? what if he had found out that soobin was a precious person to yeonjun? yeonjun felt shivers down his spine at those thoughts.

as yeonjun sat in the car, he shook his head. it's okay. it's fine. everything would be alright. there was no need for negative thoughts. maybe his dad forgot his sunglasses or something.

yeonjun groaned. who was he really trying to fool here? something had to be wrong. a meticulous man like yeonjun's father would never make the mistake of leaving something behind. beomgyu was probably right. his dad was suspicious of yeonjun and definitely was looking to catch him off guard.

as his car entered his house gates, yeonjun let out a sigh of relief to see that his dad's car wasn't there yet. before leaving, he looked at the driver and said, "don't speak a word about this, got it?"

the driver gave yeonjun a warm smile. he'd been with them for years, he knew what everyone had to put with being under mr.choi, he knew whose side to take. "of course, sir."

yeonjun immediately ran into the house, to be greeted by beomgyu.

beomgyu let out a huge sigh of relief. "oh thank god. i was so worried you wouldn't make it on time. now, quick! go change your dress and i don't know, pretend you're doing some student council work. he should be here soon."

yeonjun nodded quickly as he made his way upstairs and to his room. it was only when he reached his room and locked the door, did he let out a sigh.

"haah, that was so nerve-wracking," said yeonjun to himself. "i don't want to do that ever again."

yeonjun took his phone out of his pocket and immediately opened soobin's chat.

yeonjun : hey i reached

soobin : phewwwww, your dad home yet?

yeonjun : nope, luckily

soobin : even bigger phewwwwwwwwwwww

soobin : tell me if something happens okay?

soobin : i don't want you to stay mum and then act all cold with me

soobin : im telling this to you in advance because ik you'll pull something like that

soobin : im ur bf okay? you can always talk to me :)

yeonjun smiled at his screen. soobin's kind words dissipated all his worries and anxieties from the past few minutes.

yeonjun : obviously ^^

yeonjun set his phone down and quickly changed into his homewear. he comfortably settled down on his table, with his laptop and notebook in front of him. it was all pretend but hey at least he was studying now.

but the anxiety was creeping back in with every passing second. yeonjun found himself glancing at his door every minute, waiting for a knock. his ears were straining themselves to hear any unusual sound of someone coming it. but it was absolutely silent.

maybe, maybe it was a false alarm and his dad was not coming back. oh sweet lord, how yeonjun hoped that would be the case.

but as soon as that thought crossed his mind, yeonjun heard bustling downstairs. he could hear footsteps in the eerily silent house and yeonjun knew.

yeonjun knew his father was home.

and then yeonjun heard a knock on his door.

"yes?" said yeonjun, trying not to sound anxious.

"young master, the sir is calling you down immediately."

yeonjun took a deep breath. "i got it. thanks."

he got up from his seat, took a deep breath, and opened the door. it's fine, it's all okay. there was no way his dad would've got to know about soobin. soobin wasn't hindering his dad in any way, and as long as that was the case, soobin would be safe.

"dad, what made you come so early?" asked yeonjun, as he stood in front of his father, his arms behind his back.

"well, remember i told you i had something to tell you after i came back?"

yeonjun felt his heart beginning to beat faster, his palms sweaty.

"yes, dad."

"i think i should tell it to you as early as possible. after all, wasting time on this matter means you're going to start wasting your time on other things"

yeonjun froze. what was his dad referring to? yeonjun was so nervous and anxious that he couldn't make head or tail out of the riddles his dad was speaking in.

"as the oldest son and the heir of shinsen labels, i'm sure you are well aware of the responsibilities you carry. but we can't stay stagnant like this. as businessmen we have to expand, and we have to grow, and in order to do that i have found the perfect opportunity for you."

"i have set up a blind date for you. with the daughter of our major shareholder, ruby. i'm sure you remember her, you both had a playdate after all."

yeonjun frowned. he was unable to comprehend the sentences. should he focus on the blind date part? or should he focus on the ruby part? or should he focus on the major shareholder part? yeonjun's entire mind was in a frenzy.

"i apologize. i don't quite recall a ruby from my memory. but a blind date? is that really necessary?"

his dad raised an eyebrow and yeonjun looked away. "it's all right if you don't remember her. and maybe you're right. a blind date is not necessary but her dad insists on doing so. if it was up to me, i would've started off with an engagement itself."

yeonjun blinked. there was no way he heard this wrong. his dad wanted him to get engaged.

yeonjun always knew that his dad would never let him marry out of love, or any of the humane emotions. if it was marriage, it was for profit. yeonjun knew how his dad's mindset worked.

but he never expected his dad to bring it up this early. he was still in high school and yeonjun knew their company share prices were pretty high right now. a feeling of disgust came over him. just how power-hungry was the man in front of him?

"i'll get to you with the dates for this blind date. you know what i'm expecting from you. don't let me down."

yeonjun wanted to say no. he wanted to say fck you and your stupid power-hungry self. he wanted to. the words were at the tip of his tongue.

"yes, dad."

"good job."
