the four of them talked for longer. and the conversation ended up becoming more normal than taehyun expected.

the four of them were obviously very different people with very different circumstances but yet here they were, sitting in a coffee shop, chatting over the most mundane things.

"is kai actually really bad at the card games or is he like you and wanted to stay at rank 999 strategically?" asked soobin, finally voicing out a question he had been dying to ask. kai was an awfully sweet soul and that made soobin wonder how did a guy like him end up at rank 999?

taehyun sighed. "it's the former. my rank has been 1000 from the start of the ranking system but kai had quite a high ranking actually, somewhere around 150."

soobin raised an eyebrow. that was indeed very high.

"yeah but just because of his family he ended up with that rank. clearly, he didn't have the thing in him to keep it." said taehyun, casually.

taehyun blinked. oh shit. "fck, i didn't mean for it to come out that way. i like kai okay, i didn't mean it like that. it's just my words don't come out that well sometimes..."

"ahaha," chuckled beomgyu. "just like yeonjun-hyung."

"that's not true," said soobin. "yeonjun is well capable of expressing himself. you know how nicely he has told me he lo--"

a loud whack was heard across the cafe and some heads turned to look at the source of the noise. soobin looked at his feet, clutching his head in pain. he turned and looked at yeonjun.

"what was that for?"

yeonjun merely glared at soobin. "don't open your mouth unnecessarily."

soobin narrowed his eyes and huffed, looking away.

"ignore him. i had something to ask anyways, are you both dating?" asked yeonjun, having the most neutral and blank expression on his face.

taehyun and beomgyu immediately looked at each other. dating...?

beomgyu put his coffee cup down. "we're not."

soobin immediately lifted his head. "what?!"

"it's as he said. we're not dating."

soobin blinked. "but why?"

beomgyu looked at taehyun again and sighed. "it just...doesn't feel right. both taehyun and i agreed on it. our circumstances aren't really helping us either. it's just a fleeting feeling, i'm sure it'll disappear. for both him and me."

taehyun nodded. "there's no way i can find myself happy in a relationship with beomgyu."

yeonjun raised an eyebrow.

"i didn't mean it like that! i just meant i've already hurt the person he loves the most, and even beomgyu admits that he doesn't feel as strongly about me as he did before. so, it's best we remain friends and as he said, these feelings will disappear one day. it's not like we have a bond like you and soobin."

yeonjun glanced at beomgyu. a fleeting feeling? what a load of bullshit. but if that's what both beomgyu and taehyun had mutually agreed upon, then so be it. yeonjun believed that beomgyu was old enough to make his own decisions. who was yeonjun to stop beomgyu?

soobin also seemed to notice the laced lies between beomgyu's words but he didn't pry. "well, as long as you both are friends and cool with it, i don't see the issue."

"oh!" said taehyun "i completely forgot."

the three of them looked at taehyun, questioningly. "what is it?"
