Walking through the shiny hallway, (which the janitors did a spectacular job on) I saw my reflection and thought 'what a horrible jumpsuit for a test pilot'. I looked at the giant steel figure in front of me and watched it loom over the surrounding area.

"You know they spent billions trying to add reactors on those mechs" Erik said with a slight hint of cleverness "I really don't care" I said looking at him. There was a slight pause of silence as we watched our bladed mechs begin to power up. The reactors glowed and the first test was underway. "Get in those big bladed behemoths and smash something already!" the announcers voice echoed around the metal corridors and the wide space. We felt like he was twice the size of a heavy mech and could deliver twice the destruction. Everyone had many questions to ask him

The first point went to Erik, he sliced through the metal target like it was butter. I however caught the rest and as such won the first exam with a score of 9:6. Next was probably the most fun test. We had to test how we used the flight gear and how we use fusion. It was brilliant, we flew through the clouds and almost hit each other deliberately to show off how cool we were. After that there was a brilliant light and we collided into each other with the metal combining to make a double faced, double bladed mech. After taking down a few more metal targets, we went on to the last test and started the transformation into a vehicle. I loved leer jets and the Citroën Survolt, where as Erik loved the hydra and Lamborghinis.

Our flight was great however me, Erik, Ender, Sethra and Philip were interrupted by a sudden occurrence of a few dashers hungry for scrap metal and blood. All of us had light mech types so we were fine except for Philip who had the entirety of the mech's head removed by aliens synchronised with the speed of light. The aliens stopped and began to remove sheets of metal from Philip's mech. We couldn't have done anything which wouldn't have alerted the four dashers but Sethra couldn't stand watching the poor man die. She swore and shot thousands of beams of light at one of the aliens. I grabbed her arm and said "what are you doing? Do you want to be killed?" She grabbed my arm and forced an EMP into my arm paralysing me and my flight gear. I'm falling right now, falling to my death, being forced to just watch the ground grow closer and watch my friends kill themselves. There has to be something I can do, something that can prevent me and my friends from dying... "Remember, to disassemble your mech you must- If your mech is not equipped with a flight pack- If your mech is paralysed attempt to-" "reactivate the reactor!". It's strange how when your plummeting at a thousand kilometres a second, you begin to think faster. Anyway the reactor restarted with a zing and every bone in my body got an electric shock, my mind was running at billions of kilometres a second and I knew what to do.

Transferring the velocity upwards was easy, what was hard was controlling it. Dashers must use this technique to reach close to the speed of light but all we get is a lousy speed of sound. Speed was great, timing was great and now it was time for the big finish. I asked Ender and Erik to prepare for a three way fusion (which had only been done twice in Earth's history) and as soon as we met up the light flashed and the dashers didn't even know what was coming. Sethra attempted to kill one of them but sadly failed and started falling down to Earth, I called the carrier squad to try and collect her on the way down and the same with Philip however there was a chance Philip wouldn't be falling back to Earth ever again. The three way fusion had completed and I knew why this was an art only for elites, the strain on your body was so harsh but the freedom you got out of it was intense. A three headed mech with five swords at the ready, the dashers didn't stand a chance, we could have taken out an entire ship with this technique but we sticked to the three dashers and took them all out in one slash. Now was the time when Philip chose his fate, we couldn't choose wether he lived or died but he could.
It was all left to fate.
