JAN 18th
______

We tell the girls to wait at the dinner table as Holden and me go and make the pancakes for them.

I'm not the worst at baking but I definitely can't do it without some help, and I might just let Holden do all the work but he'll be fine, not his first time.

We head towards the kitchen and he walks around a few times to grab everything we need, when I look in front of me I see all different kinds of fruits and sweets, these girls sure have a palate.

"Do you remember which one of them likes what on their pancakes?" I ask Holden as he grabs some bowls.

He nods his head, "of course, I've been making this for them every time I've came over for about 2 years" feels like I've known the girls longer even tho it's only been 4 years of their life.

He sets the bowls down then turns around and looks at me, I furrow my eyebrows.

"What?"

"You just gonna stand there?" He asks.

"Maybe" I say.

"You're not gonna help me?" He adds.

"Maybe" I say, again.

"Get over here" he rolls his eyes and I give in and walk over. Of course I was gonna help, well, try and help. But having to make food already seems horrible and doing it with Holden might just be worse.

"Alright, you start with the batter and I'll preheat the oven" he explains to me what to put in the bowl and how and when to mix it, seemed like it was going on forever.

"Doesn't this seem like a lot for some simple pancakes?"

"With them, it's never simple" he says and I laugh a bit, it's true. Iris and Hazel are what they call, not simple.

Since they were born everything they've wanted had to be specific or else the whole house would have to deal with a tantrum. Not necessarily that they'd throw a lot of tantrums since Aunt Becker was good with this type of stuff, apparently she's read a lot of books about it.

So it's true, they're not simple at all, but I love that about them.

Halfway through making the batter and zoning out with random thoughts replaying through my head I feel Holden tapping my shoulder.

"You know, it's been a long time since we've called Maeve and Blake" he says and I realize it has been a long time. I promised to call her everyday.

"Let's call them right now, where's your phone?" I tell him and he goes to search for his phone, I look down at the batter which looks like it's done, my arms are sore from all that mixing.

He comes back 2 minutes later, "the girls had it" I shrug my shoulders then point my eyes at the batter, "look good?" I ask and he looks at the batter and then takes a few seconds before answering.

"I would've done better" I stare at him and force a smile while my eyes twitch. I walk towards the batter but then notice the flour that's sitting just next to it.

"So you could say it needs more," my back is turned against him so when I grabbed a whole hand of flour and threw it at him, he did not expect it.

"Flour?" I finish my sentence. He looks down at his now flour filled apron -which looked ridiculous- and then glares at me.

"You really wanna do this again Brie?" Indicating to the water fight we had just a week ago that I
completely forgot about.

"Think you can handle it?" I respond and we stare at each other before we both hurriedly grab stuff to throw at each other with.

"If you do this now you'll regret it Brie" He says as his hand is filled with God-knows-what.

"Okay, okay let's not do this right now." I turn around and wait till he puts down whatever he was holding to turn around again and throw it right in his face.

But when I turned around again he was stood right in front of me and held my hand to stop me from throwing it again.

"Still gonna throw it?" He looks at my hand and I look up as one of his hands covers my hand and wrist, are you serious, my hands aren't even small but they look miniature compared to his.

I grunt as I try and open my hands to spill it into his hands but I physically couldn't, I give up and only when I looked up I realized how close we were.

He didn't step away and I neither did I, I couldn't take my eyes off his, my breath started quickening as he moved closer, our faces now almost an inch away from each other.

My eyes then caught his lips and how soft they looked, did they always look that soft? I look up again to see him now staring at mine.

I barely swallow as he started inspecting my whole face, silently but deeply, he then takes another step closer, I couldn't move, it felt like I was stuck somewhere I wanted to be.

My lips part and I try to breath but it was impossible, with him right in front of me.

"Holden" I manage to get his name out, "we can't be doing this" he pauses before answering.

"I don't care" he whispers back.

He started leaning in closer when suddenly a loud ringtone went off, his eyes left mine as he sighed. I quickly stepped away when he grabbed his phone and picked up to whoever was calling him.

The second that it took for the call to connect we stared at each other, could it be that he actually wanted to kiss me, he wouldn't, right?

"Hi Holden!" I hear come from his phone and I immediately recognize the voice, Maeve.

I run over to Holden and try to fit into his camera for her to see me, she gasps.

"Brie!" She yells.

"Maeve!" I yell back excitedly and then grab his phone, he rolls his eyes -a trait he probably got from me- but leaves me to it.

I focus on the phone again, "what's up with the two of you being together?" Maeve questions.

"I have no other choice Maeve" I say and she chuckles, "put Holden on camera too I wanna talk to the both of you" she adds and I roll my eyes.

"It's like you hate me" I mutter sarcastically when Holden started walking back to the phone but stands behind me.

"Hey Maeve" he says but she starts squinting her eyes to the camera, I stare, confused.

"What's with your apron?" She asks and I look at his apron and then realize he still has flour all over it, I hold back a smile as we look at each other.

"We're baking pancakes for Hazel and Iris" I explain quickly, she widens her eyes. "Hazel and Iris?" she repeats and I nod.

"You guys went all the way to France and weren't planning on telling me?" I give her an apologetic look, "we were busy flying I guess" I tell her.

"Hand the phone to them right now" I smile and tell Holden to continue making the pancakes as I walk over to Hazel and Iris, I give them the phone.

"Faith!" They yell excitedly in sync, not sure why they call her by her last name or who even told them it but we just let them be. "Hazel, Iris!" She yells back excitedly of course.

They continue to talk for a little while but all I could think about was what just happened with Holden. Was it really what I think it was, I don't even like him.

Right at that moment Holden walks in with 3 plates, he sets down a pink one for Hazel and a blue one for Iris and then a green one for me, I look at him since I didn't expect to get food as well.

"You think I was gonna let you make the food and not eat it, come on, you don't think that bad of me" the way he said the last part made me get chills, but I didn't show it.

"I tend to think more then bad of you, trust me"
