Chapter 4: First day of school

Emmalin's P.O.V.

'Goodmorning Lilly!' I greeted my big sis who just entered the kitchen.

'Another pancake, sweetheart?' My mum's voice rang as she held the pan over my plate.

I nodded happily.

'You too Lilly-bell?' I chuckled but quickly shut up when Lilly shot me a glare.

I watched as she shook her head and went for cereals instead.

'Ow Lilly, they're really good.' I said with my mouth full of this delicious pancake.

'Emmalin-' mum cut me off. 'Lilly can decide herself what she wants for breakfast.' She said as she smiled warmly at Lilly. But she just quickly looked at her cornflakes like it was the most interesting thing in this world.

'Ohh look at the time! I think it's time for my two lovely girls to get to school.' My mum said as she put the plates in the dishwasher. I chewed on the last bit of my breakfast in my mouth and jumped of the chair, running to the hallway.

'The last one is a slack!' I yelled and heard Lilly chuckle lightly.

As I was bussy tying my left shoe, two arms scooped me up and I squealed.

'I'm not a slack.' Lilly nuzzled her nose against me and I laughed.

Lilly's one hand went to my tummy and started tickling me. I begged her to stop through my fits of laughter but she only stopped at the sound of a click and the blinding light of a flash.

She put me down as we both turned around at our smiling mum who was holding a camera.

'Say cheese!'

'CHEESE!' I showed her my brightest smile and the camera took another pic. And another, and another..

'Mum! I think it's enough now!' I giggled.

'Oh yeah right.' She put the camera down and grabbed her car keys. 'Come Emmalin.' She reached her hand out but I already raced to the car and put my backpack on my lap.

'Bye Lilly!' I screamed.

'Bye sweetie have fun on school!' Mum yelled and Lilly made a small wave as she stepped outside herself. She locked the door and turned around. She stroke a strand of hair behind her ear before putting the ears of her iPhone in. I could see how the music relaxed her. I had no idea which song she was listening to but I saw it at the smile creeping up her face. I sighed as we drove too far to watch her any further.

'Hey it'll be fun on your new school.' Mum laid her hand reassuringly on my knee.

'Do you think I'll ever be as pretty as Lil?' I looked at up at her and she smiled at me.

'Sweetheart you already are so beautiful.' She stroke my hair and let her hand rest on my cheek. 'You know what? You should tell Lilly that. I think she'll be very happy to hear that.'

'Muuuum!'

'What?'

'Never mind.' I shook my head laughing. I sniffed. 'Mum?' She hummed. 'You smell funny.'

'Ow sweetie I'm sorry. I really didn't want it to bother you. But I already told you it's because my of work, right?' I nodded.

'Yeah I know.'
