We're in it for the long run, chill 😂

What do I do now? Do I go to her?
I mean she's literally just standing right there!
The thoughts run through my mind in a panic mode as I start walking closer and closer to where Hailey stood.
As I get closer to her, her phone conversation starts getting clearer and clearer, instantly stopping my from my tracks... a shy feet away from her as my heart sinks, now unsure of what to feel.
"Oh, it's fine. I just really miss you" she says to the person on the other end of the call in that lovey-dovey shit tone before she lets out a small laugh.
Now I was cemented on my spot.
In that moment, I wanted to just walk past her and act like I never saw her in the first place.
I mean, who else would she be talking to like this on the phone, right?
I know Casey made a promise to Hailey that she'd never tell me anything going on with her life, but sometimes I couldn't help myself and would just straight up ask about her.
And if she was still with Dean.
I was a masochist, apparently.
Well, given the phone conversation she was having right now, I guess I didn't have to ask anymore.
"I'm already on my way" she adds after some inaudible sounds from the other end of her phone call "Yeah. Bye"
As soon as she ends the call and was about to start walking again, I enter panic mode, and without another thought, I called out her name.
"Hailey?"
Immediately, she stopped. Like she already knew who called out to her, and how much she was not anticipating that at all.
I mean, I don't blame her. I sure as hell didn't expect to see her here as well, and I sure as as hell am sure that I was the last person she'd expect to see too.
She slowly turned to me, and as soon as our eye met, she flashed me... the fakes smile ever.
But I don't blame her one bit.
I wouldn't be excited to see the one person who broke my heart and I've tried to avoid for years too if I was her.
"Hey" she said "What are you doing here?"
"I'm interning at this firm just around 86th" I told her.
Yet, despite the lack of enthusiasm on her part, I didn't care.
I was still so fucking happy to see her.
"How about you? What are you doing here?" I added, as I gave her a one over. From the years I've known her, she always wore jeans and sneakers (aside from those times when she has to dress up of course), so seeing her in something different felt... different.
Like I was talking to someone entirely... different.
And yet, still made me feel the same way.
"And in some pantsuit"
"I, uh... I go to law school here" she answered, completely taking me by surprise.
And yes, while I had an idea of her wanting to go to law school, I absolutely had no idea that she was gonna go to school here. In the same city exactly in the same time as me.
"Damn, really? That's great! I'm so happy for you" I told her "and you look... great" I added, to which she simply nodded as she fixed the strap of her bag on her shoulder.
