An adult Monoma sat on his bed, singing softly along to the song on his radio. After being denied a chance to enter his favorite band, he started studying their main rival's music, and had found that he quite enjoyed it.
"I've been happy, but it wasn't today."
He reached over to his desk and grabbed a hairbrush to use as a microphone.
"Drinking liquor but it's not for the taste."
"More or less it's just to numb all the pain."
"Uh-oh, uh-oh."
Neito nodded his head, feet swaying from side to side.
"I got problems that aren't going away."
"I know you know it, I can see on your face."
"Looking at me like you're looking for change."
He sung while looking right at his graduating class photo from his years at UA Academy for the Arts.
"Uh-oh."
"I feel so much tension,"
"Look at my reflection,"
He turned to face his mirror, tracing the shape of his face with a single finger.
"Ask for my perspective,"
He stared into his own eyes, the gray color slightly off-putting.
"Just looking for answers."
"I'm asking myself;"
"What's going on?"
Neito rubbed the back of his neck, not breaking the eye contact.
"Is anything wrong?"
"Are you okay?"
He looked down, wincing at the next lyric.
"Be honest."
"How do I tell anyone else,"
"If I don't know myself?"
"What's going on?"
He took a deep breath, calming his frayed nerves. This song always made him feel super emotional.
"Self-destruct without an off button."
"Roller coaster but the track's broken."
"Can't move when the train's coming."
"Uh-oh, uh-oh."
He grinned, a slightly malicious expression.
"Supercalifragilistic got me saying, 'Oh shit.'"
"Trap the image of myself, I'm staring at the ocean."
"Lacking any confidence and people start to notice."
"Uh-oh."
He looked back in the mirror, teary eyes meeting his gaze.
"I feel so much tension,"
"Look at my reflection,"
"Ask for my perspective,"
"Just looking for answers."
He hit his vanity, pulling at his hair in an effort to stop the tears that threatened to fall.
"I'm asking myself;"
"What's going on?"
"Is anything wrong?"
"Are you okay?"
"Be honest."
He pulled harder, but a single tear leaked out.
"How do I tell anyone else,"
"If I don't know myself?"
"What's going on?"
Neito felt the warmth, and looked up to his reflection, tracing the outline of his face with a single finger.
"I look into my eyes,"
"Blank stare back at me."
"I open my mouth,"
"But I don't need to speak."
"No words to explain the pain I can see."
"What I really need is to be honest with me."
Honest, he thought. What a shitty word.
"What's going on?"
"Is anything wrong?"
"Are you okay?"
"Be honest."
The lone tear was accompanied by one, then three, and then a whole waterfall of others as he slunk down, no longer singing. He clutched at his shirt, curling into a ball as he cried his heart out.
"What's going on?"
"Is anything wrong?"
"Are you okay?"
"Be honest. (what's going on?)"
"How do I tell anyone else,"
"If I don't know myself?"
"What's going on?"
"What's going on?"
"What's going on?"
"What's going on?"
"If I don't know myself?"
"What's going on?"
Honesty.. honesty makes people weak, right Mother? So why.. why does being strong hurt so bad?
