I definitely recommend listening to the Mama Hale Spotify playlist I made during this chapter. (Linked in chapter 10) There's a lot of touchy feely this time around. If you don't wanna listen to the playlist, at the very least I recommend listening to the song above on repeat for this entire chapter.

(3rd P.O.V.)

After roughly 20 minutes, everyone is calmed down and one long table replaces the two far separate ones that were once front and center. This time Lyrica, Derek, and Isaac sit together with Conner next to Isaac.

"Mr. and Mrs. Hale, is it correct that you currently have protective custody over Mr. Isaac Lahey?" The judge asks, beginning the next trial.

"Yes, your honor." Lyrica nods.

"And what is your ultimate goal for Mr. Lahey?"

"We would like to legally adopt him, your honor, as soon as possible." Derek speaks this time, knowing he and Lyrica had to show that they were equally involved.

"And why is that?"

"Since obtaining protective custody, your honor, Isaac has easily become a huge part of our lives and of our family. Yes, he has been with us for under a month, but we can't imagine him leaving us." Lyrica briefly explains.

"You understand, Mr. and Mrs. Hale, that there is a chance that the court could deem you unfit due to your pasts, yes?"

Both werewolves nod.

"What do you both have to say in response to that?"

"Yes, my upbringing was rough." Lyrica begins. "I had horrible parents and had to raise my brother from practically the time he was born. But I hold no malicious feelings towards my past. It was unfortunate, yes, but I gave my brother a happy life and he and I both gained so much more through it than I could have ever imagined. My love for helping others continued into my profession where I now teach and help shape students of the next generations. I see no reason as to why I would be seen as unfit."

"And Mr. Hale?" Derek feels the eyes of the whole room on him, and it takes him a moment to gather his thoughts.

"I lost my entire family in one night." He states. "All but my older sister, who packed us up and moved us away for our own good. Through her decision, I was allowed to properly grieve in a place that wasn't bringing me horrible memories with every second. And because of this, I was also able to meet my wife, and therefore her younger brother. As a teenager I never liked kids, but something about him changed my mind. I was happier, I wasn't plagued with survivor's guilt, and I had a reason to live again. After my older sister's recent passing, I found that once more through Isaac. As my wife stated, he has become a part of our family. We both truly love him as if he were our own, and he has changed our lives in ways we didn't realize were possible."

"Isaac?" The judge asks, taking a moment to steady her voice after Lyrica and Derek's confessions. "What would you like?"

"I would like to stay with the Hales." He instantly says. "My entire childhood I never felt safe or free to express myself, and I never felt what it was like to truly be loved by someone. Yet in the few weeks I've been with these two, I learned and felt what I had been missing all those years. I don't ever want to leave them and I want nothing more than to become a Hale. The Lahey name always instilled fear in me, but the Hale name brings warmth and happiness and acceptance. These two people are the first real family I have ever had."

"Well," The judge folds her fingers, placing them atop her desk with a smile. "I'd be nothing short of a monster if I split your family apart."

The sound of her gavel echoes through the room and cheers erupt once more as the family of three hugs once more, relieved by the judge's decision. After the room is calmed down, everyone takes their seats once more.
