Fact File about Taquamares

Hello, for this chapter, you will all be reading a fact file about Taquamares. Over time I will update it. Please read it and let me know what you all think. This chapter is divided up into sections. Taquamares are horse/lizard-like creatures native to many ecosystems of Pandora, mainly the forest and the sea. They have the body, face, snout and mane of a horse but instead of hooves, they have gecko-like feet with webbing in between them. They also have a long tail with many tendrils growing out of it. They are mainly ocean blue or green with dark green manes and tails. They also have a queue which is very similar to the Navi and yellow eyes like the forest Navi. It is because of these similar features, that they are considered one of the most mysterious creatures on Pandora. Much like the Navi, they have two alphas. A male leads them on hunting whilst a female is in charge of grooming the young.

In the Days of the First Songs, they were considered to be the great defenders of the Navi but over time due to their countless number of abilities, how they could adapt to any environment and their distinctive features, many Navi began to fear them and over time held bigotry towards them for how different they were from other creatures, particularly among the Navi Ocean clans who called them the 'daemons of the deep' and held them responsible for the loss of many of their people. They have a strange connection to mysterious crystals scattered through Pandora.

Abilities like other animals

Shooting harpoons from the mouth (cone-snail)

Swinging with a long tail (monkey)

Running on water (basilisk lizard)

Running speed (cheetah). Can run up to 80 miles per hour on the surface.

Swimming (otter) Can swim up to 50 miles per hour.

Leaping out of the water (dolphin)

Scaling up rocks/sea stacks with sticky feet (gecko)

Changing colours for camouflage (chameleon/parrotfish)

Creating bubbles that allow anyone inside them to breathe through osmosis (jellyfish)

Hypnosis (cuttlefish/snake)

Glow in the Dark (firefly)

Running up and along mountains (mountain goat)

Echolocation in the dark (bat/beluga whale)

Storing fat/water in the body to withstand heat/cold temperatures (camel)

Tracking skills – both in and out of the water (dog/wolf/shark)

Electric-bite (electric eel)

Roar (sea lion/lion)

Spewing ink under tails (octopus)

Can see colours/energy in ways other creatures can't (damselfish)

Gliding with wings (draco lizard)

More Facts

Eat small fish, little land creatures, land fruit and algae – omnivores.

They are lethal fighters and hunters.

Have special sight – see Eywa's energy under the solid surface.

Have a special connection to Eywa's crystals.

Deep link to flora/spirit seeds / some fauna (like Kiri)

Both alive during the day and the night

Can adapt to any temperature.

Are the deepest, diving creatures in the world.

Abilities of a Navi / Spirit Brother or Sister who bonds with them and a Crystal.

Taquamares have a queue very similar to a Navi's. Once they make the first link with a Navi, they are bonded for life. They don't need to link their queues again.

After the first link with their queue, their spirit brother/sister...

Can understand them.

Don't need to bond with it again in order to ride it.

After the first link with a crystal and a Taquamare's queue, their spirit brother/sister...

Can feel their emotions.

See Eywa's energy under the water.

Glow in the presence of a spirit tree.

Can control the crystals.

Can connect to their spirit brothers/sisters like avatars and their minds become one.
