Barcode could only imagine how pathetic he appeared drenched in tears and blubbering away in Jeff's arms. He was hardly able to enunciate his words correctly so eventually the boy stopped attempting to vocalize his thoughts.
His eyes burned from repetitively wiping away his tears and yet he could scarcely focus on the physical pain. Even with the closeness of their bodies, he was acutely aware of the invisible barrier between them.
But he wasn't the only one in pain.
For the first time, Jeff was at a complete and utter loss for words.
"I'm so sorry, Barcode." The man echoes for the fourth time, breathing in deeply through his nose.
Barcode knew Jeff's expression all too well. The way his body tremored ever so slightly...how his lips formed into a tight grimace...how he refused to meet his eyes.
Jeff was trying so damn hard not to cry.
"I know you want to cry too," Barcode whispers feebly. "So why don't you?"
Jeff flinches at the boy's observation.
"What good would it do?" He sighs, coiling his arms around Barcode's frame even tighter than before.
"Well...at least I wouldn't be crying alone," Barcode responds in a muffled tone, burying his face deeper into Jeff's shoulder.
Jeff forces a pained smile at the statement, stroking Barcode's back in an attempt to comfort him.
"But you're never alone with me." He whispers reassuringly.
Of course, he would say that.
Barcode releases a soft sigh of his own at the statement, wrapping his arms tighter around Jeff's waist in return.
It wasn't like he wanted to get Jeff in trouble for breaking his contract with Pond but who the hell would he even tell his secret to? He couldn't understand why Jeff was so intent on not telling him.
Perhaps the most painful realization of all was that it didn't matter how many tears he cried...Jeff refused to break his silence. The only solace the older man provided him with was that he would have the answers he craved in the near future.
But what exactly did their future together even look like anymore?
As the clock ticked away in the background Barcode was starkly reminded of their dwindling time together.
The tour is ending soon...I'm sure we won't be able to see each other every day.
After all, Jeff was already busy enough as it was. If he wasn't engaged in rehearsals for KinnPorsche he was somewhere in a studio making music, performing his songs at events, or posing for his latest modeling gig. The man was a bona-fide workaholic.
"You need to get some rest," Jeff whispers in his ear, breaking his train of thought.
The statement only makes Barcode click his tongue.
"You're the one who needs to get some rest," the young man combats, lifting his head to glance at himself in the vanity mirror. He hated how flushed his face had gotten.
"Barcode please," Jeff attempts, pressing his lips against the boy's temple. "We'll talk more about this in the future. I promise."
Barcode frowns at the statement.
"You want me to go to bed?" He gruffs, withdrawing from Jeff's arms. "Fine. It's not like we were really talking anyways."
While Barcode intended to combat the man a bit more he would be lying if he said he wasn't exhausted. Though even with his exhaustion he highly doubted he'd be getting any sleep tonight.
