Jeff
Jeff sat with his arms crossed as the makeup crew worked their magic. It was a tedious process he had endured countless times. Applying powder under his eyes and down the expanse of his neck to balance his complexion, carefully positioning the dark tresses of his silky locks, and smoothing down even the smallest wrinkles on his clothing. Before the camera started rolling, Jeff Satur made it a habit to look perfect.
But how could any amount of makeup eliminate the newfound scowl that permanently stained his expression? He was usually better about controlling his emotions and yet now he found himself turning green with envy. Even after the pair ate breakfast together, Barcode was still chattering away with Ta. Didn't he know they were about to go on set in fifteen minutes? Either the boy no longer felt the need to rehearse his lines with Jeff or he was making a childish attempt to spite him. The older man assumed it was the latter.
Barcode sat a few yards away as another crew member brushed through his dark hair to add volume. Despite his lack of sleep the night before, Barcode appeared just as beautiful and stunning as ever. The boy hardly needed makeup to enhance the natural beauty of his youthful complexion. Even as he attempted to maintain his focus on Barcode, he couldn't eliminate the image of Ta's figure leaning against his chair.
With each remark that slipped from Ta's lips, the boy's gorgeous smile bloomed brightly in his direction. What the hell was Ta even saying to make him smile so damn much? While the sight of Barcode's smile naturally sparked butterflies in Jeff's stomach, he hated how the boy's pretty eyes refused to even glance in his direction. Had he turned invisible since this morning? It certainly wasn't a feeling Jeff Satur was used to.
Why won't you meet my gaze?
If only Barcode would dare to meet his eyes for a single moment. Would he finally recognize the true extent of Jeff's emotions? How his love for the boy in front of him outweighed even his own selfish desires?
"I can't wait to hear you perform," Ta vocalizes loudly enough for Jeff to hear, smoothing a single hand over Barcode's slender shoulder. Barcode doesn't seem to notice the young man's purposeful increase in volume as the smile on his face only broadens.
"Will you be watching, Ta?" He questions with a tinge of nervousness in his tone.
"Of course, I will," Ta confirms with a smirk, giving his shoulder a squeeze.
Great.
"You're not even going to be part of this scene," Jeff scoffs, unable to hold his tongue.
The interjection finally seems to catch Barcode's attention because he glances in Jeff's direction.
"So?" Barcode counters, standing up from his chair as the makeup artist finishes the final touches on his appearance. "I want him to be there."
Before Jeff can meet the boy's eyes Barcode swiftly diverts his attention back to Ta. His defensive response only seems to encourage the smug grin on the young man's face to grow as he peels his eyes over in Jeff's direction. It wasn't hard to read the expression in Ta's taunting gaze.
Are you mad, bro?
"Yeah, he wants me to be there," Ta echoes smugly. "But I'll try not to distract you, Satur."
"You won't distract me," Jeff sighs, standing from his own chair. " After all, I'm used to people watching me. Just try not to distract, Barcode."
Barcode
Admittingly, it was easier for Barcode to focus on how frustrated he felt with Jeff rather than the ache that had settled in his heart. Could Ta tell he was feeling under the weather? If he could, he appreciated the fact that the young man never pushed for him to share.
