JAYDEN

Next day (10:50am)

"This file contains the number of kids who started kindergarten last year," the principal said, handing it to me.

"Thank you." I took it from him and was about to head out of the office when he asked,

"May I ask what you need it for, Jayden?" He gave me a quizzical look.

"I wanted to show my father the amount of progress the school has made. I hope that's okay with you."

Lies.

"Of course, no problem," he smiled.

I nodded and proceeded to leave the office. Iopened the SUV's passenger seat and got into the car.

"Where to, sir?" Jin asked from the driver's seat.

"My house." I said while opening the file.

Jin started the engine and began leaving the parking lot of the school. I, on the other hand, began checking the file.

Ella Martins
Gender: Female
Date of Birth: August 11, 2017

None of my business.

I turned the pages until I got to the K and J section.

Jordan Baker
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: October 07, 2016

Wrong Jordan.

Jordan Brown.

Bingo!

Gender: Female
Now to the most crucial part; Date of Birth: July 27, 2017.

Ashley told me she was four and would be five this year. But the file says she’s five and will be turning six in a few months.I left about six years ago, early January to be exact, and Jordan was born about six months after that.

Pregnancy takes about 9 months, right? Maybe she was already a few weeks in when she found out.

That could only mean; Jordan's my daughter.

ASHLEY

Same day (7:14 PM)

"Mummy, is Jayden a bad person?" Jordan asked.

Not now, Jordan.

I tensed up. "Uh... well... he isn't really a bad person..."

"Then why can't I speak to him anymore?"

I picked up the basket of neatly folded laundry and headed to Jordan's purple-themed room.

"Because I don't want you to." I began placing her clothes in her wardrobe.

She sat on the bed and tilted her head in confusion at me. "Why not?"

"Because... he’s, uh... well, he's older than you."
