KYLE
It's been a month since I brought Tessa to my place after her break up.
The first week was rough. Tessa was a shadow of her former self, haunted by the ghosts of her past. I tried to give her space, letting her come to me when she was ready. We'd spend evenings on the couch, watching reruns of old sitcoms, the laughter from the screen contrasting with the silence between us.
One evening, as we sat in comfortable quietude, I glanced over to see her eyes welling up. Without a word, I reached out, placing my hand over hers. She looked at me, a mixture of gratitude and sorrow in her gaze, and squeezed my hand gently. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes.
By the second week, Tessa began to emerge from her shell. One morning, I found her in the kitchen, humming softly as she brewed coffee.
"Morning," I greeted, trying to hide my surprise.
She turned, offering a shy smile. "Morning. Thought I'd make us some coffee."
I grinned, taking a seat at the counter. "Best way to start the day."
We sipped our coffee in comfortable silence, the aroma filling the room. It felt... normal.
Later that week, I had a home game against the Thunderbirds. As a point guard for the Falcons, I was used to the adrenaline rush of the court, the roar of the crowd. But this game felt different. Tessa had expressed interest in attending, and the thought of her cheering me on filled me with a renewed vigor.
The stadium was alive with energy. Fans donned in blue and silver filled the seats, their cheers echoing throughout the arena. I scanned the crowd, searching for Tessa. Finally, I spotted her in the VIP section, wearing a Falcons jersey, her face lit up with excitement.
Our eyes met, and she waved enthusiastically. I chuckled, feeling a warmth spread through me.
The game was intense. The Thunderbirds were formidable opponents, but we held our ground. Each time I made a shot or executed a play, I could hear Tessa's cheers above the din. It was... motivating.
In the final quarter, with the scores tied, I dribbled down the court, eyes focused. With seconds left on the clock, I took the shot—a three-pointer from the edge. The ball soared through the air, the entire stadium holding its breath. Swish.
The crowd erupted. Teammates swarmed me, pats on the back and celebratory shouts filling my senses. Amidst the chaos, my eyes found Tessa. She was on her feet, jumping up and down, pure joy radiating from her.
After the game, as I made my way through the corridor, Tessa rushed towards me.
"You were amazing!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around me.
I laughed, wrapping her in a tight embrace. "Couldn't have done it without my number one fan."
She pulled back slightly, looking up at me with shining eyes. "Seriously, Kyle. That shot? Legendary."
I shrugged, feigning nonchalance. "All in a day's work."
She smacked my arm playfully. "Humble as always."
We spent the rest of the evening celebrating with the team. Tessa fit right in, her laughter infectious as she recounted moments from the game. For the first time in a long while, she seemed genuinely happy. It was a sight I cherished.
The days that followed were filled with spontaneous adventures. We visited art galleries, critiquing pieces with mock seriousness. One afternoon, we stumbled upon a street fair. Tessa's eyes lit up at the sight of colorful stalls and the aroma of street food.
