Theo's Perspective

"Theo?" I looked up from my laptop. My teacher handed me a hall pass, although I didn't know what it was for. "Principal Hudgens asked to see you. You may pack your things and I'll see you tomorrow." Was I in trouble? I never really got sent to the principal's office, and if I did it was to drop off or pick up something.

This time she wanted to see me, which could mean I might've done something wrong... My heart sank when I remembered that I skipped school on Friday. I had my mom tell the school that I had a cold though, what else could it be?

I could imagine it all so clearly: the principal loses her normally friendly face when she sees me and I get informed that she's disappointed in me for missing my classes. I shook my head and tried reassuring myself that that scenario was unrealistic, but I instantly held my breath once Hudgens locked eyes with me and I stood nervously in the middle of her office. What if I really did do something wrong..?

Her serious expression turned into a welcoming smile as she turned to look towards something beside me. I followed her gaze and saw a boy that I've never seen before. "You might be wondering why I called you here," Yeah, you didn't need to read minds to guess that.

"Theo, you've been excused from your first three periods for today. Instead, you'll be giving our new student here a tour of the entire campus. I expect you both to not disrupt any classes, but knowing Theo I'm sure that won't happen." I smiled at her praise, I don't think she knows how relieved I was to know that I wasn't in trouble.

The new student she was referring to was a tall boy who I bet will become one of the jocks. He leaned back coolly on his seat and glanced up at me. Why did she choose me to give him a tour, though? Sure, I was a good student, but I'm not the best at talking to new people. Usually I have people come to me first. Principal Hudgens was counting on me and I couldn't say no to a day without classes.

The boy and I walked out of the office and into the hallway. I instantly started nervously playing with my sleeve and stuttered, struggling to find the right words to say. The new kid took note of this and smirked at me. "You okay there? You look a little tense..."

He slid an arm around my shoulder, like how Blake did, and chuckled. "Don't worry, you don't need to feel that way around me. What's your full name, Glasses?" Glasses? I didn't know a single thing about this guy, but he seems like a people person right off the bat.

"Theo... Wright." I mumbled, hoping I didn't have to repeat myself. "I like that name. How 'bout after this tour we can go hang out, cutie? I'll treat you to anything you want." When I opened my mouth to reply, he squeezed my shoulder and pulled me closer to him.

I was surprised, not from his touchy nature, but by the way he was able to like me so fast. Most people make fun of me at school, unlike him. "Oh, maybe." I uttered before it hit me that I planned on visiting Blake after school. I couldn't fix my mistake, however, because he dragged me over to a nearby vending machine.

"I'm kinda thirsty. I'll get you whatever you want here if you are too." He winked at me before sliding in a dollar bill and clicking on the button for the Sprite bottle. I forgot to ask him his name and I needed to know, I didn't want to continue calling him "new kid". "I'm okay, thanks. What's your name?" The boy unscrewed the cap of his drink and chugged it for a few seconds before exhaling and turning to me again.

"Josh Beyer. Better remember my last name because you might have it someday!" I awkwardly chuckled at his joke. I didn't really mind, I guessed that it was his sense of humor and the way he was. He laughed and held the Sprite towards me. "Want some?"

"I couldn't, it's yours," I said, not wanting to take away any of his drink; he did say that he was thirsty. "Don't worry about it," Josh insisted, "I wouldn't really ask anyone that, but you're an exception."
