The fireworks display had been amazing and after it had finished, we got up and headed inside. Steve had suggested we watch a movie and I was a little confused over everything that had just happened outside so I just agreed. I ended up falling asleep and like he'd done when I'd been sick, he must have carried me up to bed because I woke up with him spooning me in the bed and it was actually pretty nice and comfortable. I lay there for a good twenty minutes before he woke up and when he did, he gently sat up and I rolled onto my back, seeing him glance back at me and I gave him a sleepy smile and he mirrored it back.

"How about we get dressed and go grab some coffee?"

"Sure." I nodded and sat up, stretching for a moment before I got off the bed. "Let me get changed and I'll be good to go."

He nodded and then lay back down. "I had a really nice birthday yesterday, Madd. Those fireworks were the perfect way to end the day, even if you did fall asleep on me whilst we watched that movie."

"Sorry." I laughed. "I was just super comfy."

"So I'm not sure if you were awake or asleep when I was talking to you last night, if you were awake, you didn't respond to me, so--"

"I don't remember you talking to me?" I frowned. "What did you say?"

"I was just--I sort of asked you if you wanted to get dinner tonight, to say thank you for yesterday but I think I asked you in a really weird way, so I thought you might have just ignored me." He shrugged. "I wasn't sure."

"No, I was definitely asleep. I don't remember you talking at all." I headed over to the ensuite before I turned around whilst stood in the doorway. "But yeah, dinner would be nice."

"Great. I'll uh, I'll make arrangements later on." I nodded whilst heading into the ensuite, closing the door behind me and I brushed my teeth and washed my face. When I came out, he was sat on the bed and I assumed he was waiting to get in and brush his teeth so I headed out of the bedroom. He followed me out and into the walk in to grab some clothes and then as he was walking out, he seemed to stop and look at me so I looked at him.

"Everything ok Steve?"

"Yeah," he grinned. "You know that coffee shop across from the bank sells cinnamon swirls and since it's early, I figured you'd maybe want to go and grab a coffee and a cinnamon swirl this morning?"

Yes! That sounded amazing. "Sure." I nodded. "Let me just get dressed and we can go."

"Cool, I'll let you get sorted. I'm just gonna get washed."

I thought it was really sweet of Steve to take me to get me a caramel latte and cinnamon swirl, we started walking back to the car with our morning treats and we'd decided that we would grab some stuff and head to the beach for the day, it wasn't far and I thought a day by the water would be good. It wouldn't take me long to whip up some sandwiches and snacks and then we could be on our way. Once I'd ate the cinnamon swirl, I got to work on snack making and Steve wrapped and packed. We had everything we needed and got in the car, I was looking forward to it because we'd never been to the beach here and I'd heard there was a small theme park next to it so we could have a really fun day.

Steve got onto the highway and I hooked up my phone to the car, searching for a playlist because the radio was putting out rubbish that neither myself or Steve knew. I found a summer playlist that had loads of recognisable stuff on it so I put that on as we drove. I was about to really belt out a harmony with the Backstreet Boys when the music volume suddenly dropped and a call came through on a private number.
