"I can't believe I finally finished work for the day and then got stuck in an elevator as slow as this one," Iris thought, her chestnut brown eyes darting impatiently down at her wrist's delicate ruby red-banded watch.
Meanwhile, her opposite hand absentmindedly seemed to find an interest in twirling a loose strand of hair dangling tauntingly outside of her brunette hair's ballerina bun, the heel of her left foot's black flat tapping unconsciously against the box-like transport's metal flooring.
Though, despite all outward signs showing otherwise, the recently promoted reporter wasn't nervous even in the slightest to talk with Barry. In fact, everything was quite to the contrary for she was actually acting so anxious because she wanted so badly to see him.
I mean, I don't really see any way in which getting to hang out with a guy like him could make anyone upset in the first place, let alone only a few days after he's just woken up from a two week coma, after all!
Honestly, even just the thought of getting to see the adorkable scientist's face sent an immediate wave of excited adrenaline coursing through all Iris' veins that she couldn't quite explain. Similar to the feeling she always got whenever she was given the chance to write an article about something that truly made a difference in their city, only it somehow had a much longer lasting effect on her than its prior comparison.
Which is sorta crazy considering I've known Barry for practically my entire life now, but then again, I guess he just kinda has that effect on most people. Especially his smile...not that I've really thought about it like that or anything...
"No, of course, I haven't," Iris quietly reassured herself as the elevator's two silver metallic sliding doors opened with a sudden click, shaking her head slowly a few times just to make sure the crazy idea had fully been removed from her head.
What am I even saying? I've always just wanted us to be friends. I mean, I even told him almost that exact thing last year. And even if for some random reason I didn't want that anymore, which I do! He's in a relationship with Patty now. It'll be selfish to try and take that away for no reason, anyway.
"I thought you were still at work?" Joe asked, confusedly as he watched his daughter distractedly leaving the elevator.
An action done with nearly so much absentmindedness that she almost missed her father's tall form waiting beside its entrance entirely.
"Oh, well, I asked my boss and he said that it was okay if I checked out kinda early, today. And I just figured I could maybe stay with Barry for awhile. You know, give him some company," explained Iris, her shoulders raising innocently at her own comment.
"Really?" Questioned Joe, his black tuxedo-jacketed arms crossed skeptically over one another as he met with his daughter's guilty-looking gaze.
Neither West said anything for several seconds, seemingly having engaged in a mutually playful stare-off until Iris finally conceded to answering the rest of her Dad's accusation.
"Okay, fine, I admit, technically we all agreed not to be around him all the time so he wouldn't feel more anxious than he already does about getting better, but in my defense! He's really never anxious when he's around me," stated Iris, a strong sense of honesty carrying her voice as she lightly threw her hands down in frustration.
