What the hell were you thinking?

I dragged Cheryl as I swam as fast as I could. I kept an eye out for falling debris and managed to get on top of a still sturdy wall. The place was pitch black. I used glow stick to navigate my way there. We saw that people were being eaten but we were helpless to do anything. The moment we got on it. The walkie talkie crackled to life. I heard Gus on the other end of the line. He was screaming my name. I answered him and he praised God for saving me. He apologized for making fun of me. He promised me that next time there is a field trip he will find a way to make sure Cheryl doesn't go so we wouldn't be in this mess ever again. She seemed to agree.

There was another guy who had climbed the wall. He was eyeing my backpack so I clutched it tighter. He gave me a look. I took out my taser and he backed away. Cheryl got behind me and she used another glow stick to see if there was anyone behind us. There wasn't anybody. The guy was staring at me for a moment and demanded that I handover my stuff and Gus yelled at him. This creep said that since I was a cop it shouldn't be a problem. I refused and he tried to advance. I pulled out my gun and removed the safety to shoot him. He backed away and he sat as though he was about to pounce on me. I had a feeling that he will follow me because that is his best bet to get out of here. Cheryl told me that wall was starting to crumble so I told her to jump. I looked at the creep and he looked like he wasn't buying it. He will jump when I do and in the same direction I go. So I threw the glow stick Cheryl and I had to check where to go and he tried to get closer. I made sure he heard the clicking sound of my gun so he backed up. As it grew dark I threw I brick into water and he jumped into the water. I picked up a new glow stick and saw that he was swimming in the direction of a gator. He had a glow stick in his mouth and he seemed to see it as well. He looked around to see where we were. Cheryl and I hid in the small available space before he turned around. He swam till he reached the stairs. I took off my belt and she took off hers. We linked it together and hoped it would work as a rope. I wanted to give Cheryl a boost but she is small and can't handle my body weight so I got up the back wall. She threw the bag and I caught it. I lowered the belt and held on as She climb up. She climbed up as quickly as she possibly could. The wall crumbled under her feet as she reached the new perch.

I used the flashlight and saw that there were people in the water and they were staring at us with mixed feelings. I knew they would try to grab my gear the first chance they get so my priority was to get out and have search and rescue deal with these guys. I took my ward's hand and ran as fast as I could. I saw a door with an electronic lock. I used the taser to unlock it. I walked into the med bay. There I saw gauge and other medical equipment that I could use. I used antiseptic and cleaned my wounds and wrapped gauge around it. I did the same for Cheryl the entire time I kept looking at the door in case someone would barge in and demand my stuff. So I emptied the contents into both our pockets. I was glad I decided that we should wear pants with a lot of pockets. I even managed to hide the blow stick in my sleeve as we got out.

We heard a blast and we ran in the opposite direction. We heard first responders so we turned around. We stopped when we saw a huge hole between us and freedom. Eels were swimming on the top. The view of the bottom held the stuff of nightmares. First was gators and sharks. All of them were daring us to make it to the other side alive. They seemed to be staring at us with a look that says getting across is like a scene from a mission impossible movie. The fireman placed a plank for us to walk on. We had to walk very carefully on the piece of wood as it made cracking sounds as we walked on it. Not the most encouraging sounds to be precise.

Gus was waiting with the others. They looked as white as a sheet. We hugged and cried. We were interrupted by a police officer I have never met before. He wanted details about what I knew. He didn't judge me for taking precautions. He asked me what I remembered and he promised to take care of the rest. Chief showed up and so did Van Pelt.

The first responders had to work extra hard to rescue the ones that were trapped. One by one people were escorted out alive or dead. They stared at me as the cops explained that I was the one to tell them where they were so they can be rescued. Some were happy while others were upset that I made it out safely. I had a feeling that I will be sued but that is tomorrow's problem. I will face it then.

I showed up at work and everyone wanted to know what I took with me in case it happened again. I kept my mouth firmly shut. The culprits were a bunch of kids. They thought that having fishes locked in tanks was unfair so they decided to blow it up. Van Pelt asked me if she could join me for dinner but I had plans. In the reflection I saw HER. SHE was particularly looking forward to it. I gave her a subtle nod. SHE smiled like it was her birthday. Dimka poked me on the shoulder and asked me if I was chatting with HER. If not could I possibly consider going on a dinner date with him.  I reminded him that I am married woman. He brushed it off and asked again. I reminded him that DD was a better husband than him. His face turned red and he stormed off. Van Pelt seemed to get a kick out Dimka's reaction.

I walked out to see that Dimka was arguing with Gus. I knew if he pushed him hard enough Dimka will die. SHE might be happy but I won't be. Gus won't think twice about slitting his throat. I calmly kissed Gus in his cheek and asked him if it is possible for us to have dinner at home. I wanted to cook him a three course meal. Gus gave Dimka a sneer as he kissed my hair. He looked at me with love. He gave me a nod. We walked to the car with Dimka following us step by step.

We arrived at home and Dimka turned around and left for his apartment. I know that because I bugged his car so I would know where he is. I am not interested in getting pepper sprayed by him again. I like to work in peace. He enjoys getting in my way.

I felt HER stare at me prolifically. SHE looked like SHE had many ideas swimming in HER head. I didn't like that SHE had no conscious. I wish SHE would feel something. Then I remembered what SHE said about uncle. He was the reason SHE kills. SHE was nodding HER head like SHE waiting for me to do something. Whatever it was it will not be good. SHE waited till I called HER to ask her a few questions. SHE tied me up but didn't answer me. She walked out to explore the world but this time SHE didn't untie me when SHE was done. SHE decided that SHE has had enough. I will stay and watch HER live my life.
