Just another Monday

I walked to the morgue to talk to the M.E. Van Pelt followed me and she seems to be glowing. I asked her what was going on. She smiled, "You put the fear of God in a serial killer. How old were you?" I shrugged, "I was twelve" She stared at me in shock. The M.E. had nothing for me so I decided to go for a drive. Van Pelt joined me. I told her that he has caused me a lot of stress so please just drop the subject. She didn't say anything but smiled kindly.

We drove five blocks and saw a man show up out of nowhere and grab a kid and bolt. Her mother screamed for help and Van Pelt called it in. Squad cars surrounded the place in no time but he gave us the slip. An Amber Alert was sent and people spread all over the place to find her. We search CCTV footage and even send dogs to sniff around. After an hour we found a girl who looked identical to her. Only she was dead. Forensics went crazy trying to find out everything they could. I came home hoping that tomorrow the kid could come home.

When I came home Cheryl was grinning ear to ear. I asked her if she passed her exams. She said that she is proud that I stood up for people. DD had ordered my favorite double cheese pizza and had changed into his PJs. I can tell that he is stressed so I made macaroni and cheese with grilled hotdogs cut into it. He happily ate it. I took flat bread and spread mustard and hot sauce on it. I then scattered french fries hot dogs and mozzarella and rolled it up. I pan seared it. DD and Cheryl happily ate it.

Cheryl asked how we met. I smiled, "We met at a party. I was there since my friends said I was fun deficient." Henry laughed, "Is that even possible?" I shrugged, "Apparently it is. He was there and we started to talk and we connected." DD smiled, "She saved my sister once. And we connected. I still wish that I had the guts to propose when my family told me to. Most of my problems would never have existed." I waved him off, "Let bygones be bygones." I ate a slice of pizza and then made instant chocolate mousse. And DD happily ate it. Cheryl was about to eat it when her friend called so she ran off to chat with her. Henry asked me how my day was. I told him about the missing kid. I intend to find her after dinner. DD volunteered to drive me like he did when we first met.

After Cheryl went to sleep I called Tanya and she found out where the creep was. I called Van Pelt and she promised to meet me there. I asked her to be careful. She promised and I quickly got ready and we left. When we got there. I heard gunfire and I asked DD to stay in the car. I pulled out my gun and ran towards the sound. I found Van Pelt's brother on the floor and the perpetrator in hand cuffs. Van Pelt was trying to stop the bleeding. I called it in and helped her stop the bleeding. The paramedic arrived moments later. He was hauled to the nearest hospital. The perp was taken to holding. Van Pelt and I searched the place for the kid and found the place was filled with Booby traps.

There were wires all over the floor. The lightest tug and axes came swinging or shotguns would fire. I had to get the wire cutters. Each one was sliced and we had to brace for it. Once we were sure we were safe we started to search for the kid. We found her stuffed in an ice box. She was barely breathing. We drove her to another hospital since we didn't want her to see that monster at all. The captain spent twenty minutes yelling at Van Pelt and she thanked me for my quick thinking.

When we came home Cheryl was awake. She saw the news and was jumping with joy. I told her to curb her enthusiasm since the perpetrator might still try to grab her. I am sure he will try the crazy card. DD seems to disagree. He thinks that he will deny the entire thing. I told him that it is a problem for tomorrow. I want to get some sleep. He looked tired too so we snuggled on the couch and passed out. The next morning Henry woke us up and the security were treating us like we were with our hands in the cookie jar. They happily teased us. I ignored them and kissed DD on his cheek. He carried me upstairs and we got cleaned up. DD dropped me at the police station and he went to work.

Van Pelt was given desk duty so I decided to go with a Rookie. A blonde haired short sleeved uniform cop was getting her body cam and I asked if I could accompany her. She grinned, "Of course." I asked her T.O. if he had any issues and he said he had none. The three of us got in the shop and I gave them directions. T.O. introduced him as Jack. He asked me where we were going and I said that I am keeping an eye on a potential serial killer. The man has been behaving oddly and I can't shake off that feeling. Jack stepped on it and we arrived at the destination within minutes. I asked him not to blare the siren since it might tip him off.

The man in question was near a hotdog stand. He waved at us as we walked by. I asked Jack to park the shop and meet us since we will have to follow him on foot. The rookie and I stepped out. We followed the man at a thirty foot pace distance. Sure enough he walked into an abandoned building. We had to be careful since we had no clue what booby traps there were. Jack came and we decided to stay together. I heard huffing and puffing. I saw him using an electric saw to cut up a person. A very alive person. The person was moaning begging, "No no please no" I raised my gun and so did the others. The rookie called out, "Freeze hands in the air." The man threw the saw at us and tried to run. The rookie ran after him and I called out, "Use your taser" both of the uniform cops tased him unison. He fell to the floor as Jack called the station for a forensics team and an ambulance. The girl was slowly bleeding so I made a tourniquet with my belt. The ambulance arrived and she was hauled away. I got in with her while the other two dropped what his name in holding.

I sat and waited outside as she was patched up. The doctors took their sweet time and I had to call home to let them know that I might be late. When she was out of surgery I had to wait another two hours before I got her statement. She started to cry as she explained how she was nabbed off the streets. She sobbed, "I got out of the cab and walked towards the elevator. A man came out of nowhere and pepper sprayed me. Then I felt a needle and passed out. I didn't see the person's face. When I woke up I was strapped to a table. He said that he wanted to dissect me." I couldn't get another word out of her. When I arrived at the station I wanted to skin the man. He tried to pretend like we had arrested him the moment he walked out of his mother's house. I showed him the body cam footage. His lawyer advised him to shut up. I guess I will see him in court. I thanked the two and sat to fill the report.
