Victoria leaped for her bed as Sarah closed the door after them. Painted black, white and red the room was large with a romantic feel to it (mostly her mom's idea), frilly curtains draped the windows leading to her balcony, which were also her mother's idea. Her canopy bed was Victoria's safe haven especially after long, hard stressful days at school and just the usual ongoing drama among her friends. One half of her walk in closet was filled from top to bottom with old cleats, soccer and basketball uniforms and bags. In the middle was a fiberglass case which consisted of soccer, rugby and basketball trophies and metals, while the other half contained her clothes, which were organized depending on her mood and appeared to only be of two colors: black and red.
Most days Victoria enjoyed wearing something black or red, which would explain her closet, because it reminded her of power and she loved being in control. She also sometimes preferred to be casual so she was quite content just being in her sweatpants and over sized hoodie, that Sarah secretly adored and often tried to copy when she was tired of her clothing choices. Victoria begged their father to let her have a desk in her room to do her homework, her artwork or story writing. Sarah thought that it was unfair that Victoria was the only who got a desk so Tom built her one too.
"Why does Dad keep lying to us? Does he think that we cannot handle the truth?" Sarah asked frustrated.
"I don't know, Sarah, but we cannot judge Dad for lying to us when we have not been completely honest with Dad OR Mom either." Victoria said.
"I know, I know. We have not been honest, but we would have been more honest if Dad was more honest with us too." Sarah explained.
"That's true, but there is really nothing we can do about it, Sarah." Victoria said reassuringly.
"I'm going to have a shower now, Victoria. It's been a long day and I'm exhausted." said Sarah "Would you like to come to my room to watch a movie later. Apparently there is a new Avengers movie out and it is really good."
"Sure." Victoria said. "I'll come as soon as I finish organizing some things in here and after I have had my shower."
Then Sarah and Victoria both went about their businesses. Sarah had a great shower and washed her hair and Victoria not only organized her room but was also able to do some homework and start on another painting.
As Victoria painted she thought about her father's secret and about her and Sarah's secret and how parallel they were. She wondered if she was doing the right thing by keeping it away from her parents for so long and how long would be too long...
"Only time will tell I guess." She said sighing as she stared at her nearly finished masterpiece.
