DAY 1: Plan

~Sarah's P.O.V~

The Day Before

After we had a delicious supper of salmon and baked potatoes, Victoria and I were led to our rooms once again. Chris' gaze was on my back the entire twenty levels to my room. Ben asked Chris to walk me to my room because he had to discuss an issue with Victoria. We finally made it to my room. I felt so exhausted and I could not wait to get settled into my bed and pull the covers over my head. Chris stared at me as I tried to unlock the door with no avail.

"Um would you like me to help you with that, Sarah?" Chris asked nervously, running his hand through his hair.

"Yes, please. On a normal day, this would not be a problem." I answered, giving him the keys and laughing awkwardly.

As he took the keys, I caught a glimpse of a smile appearing on his lips. He managed to unlock the door on the second try and ushered me in.

"Thank you."

"You are welcome. Well, have a good ni-."

"Would you like to come in for some coffee or tea?" I interrupted.

"Well... I wouldn't mind a cup of tea." He answered shyly. "But aren't you tired? You look like you are about to pass out."

"I am tired but I don't want to be left alone just yet." I admitted looking at the floor, embarrased.
I was about to tell Chris that he could leave when I felt a hand on my arm, guiding me to my bedroom.

"How about you go get ready, have a warm bath or do whatever while I make both of us a hot cup of tea." Chris said

"You don't mind?"

"Of course not. I can stay with you until you fall asleep if it makes you feel better."

"You don't have to do that, Chris." I told him sincerely

"I know, but I want to." He said smiling. I could not help but smile back.

"Thank you. That really means a lot." I told him and he nodded understandingly. "Well I think I will take your advice and go have a warm bath."

After my bath, I found a smiling Chris in the kitchen and in his hands were two cups of tea. We talked around the dining room table for what seemed like hours as we sipped on our tea. Then, we went to my bedroom because I could no longer keep my eyes open. I laid on my bed and waited for sleep to come. It did not take long and the last thing I remembered before my deep, dreamfilled sleep, was Chris' hands gently rubbing my back.

Today

I was startled awake by two loud knocks on my room door. A sudden ache filled my body as I turned to look at the clock that sat on the nighttable beside my bed. I could not believe my eyes. It was only 4:00. Why would they wake us up so early I wondered.

"YOU MUST GET OUT NOW!" Came a booming voice along with another bang on the door. "WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!"

At those words, I panicked. I quickly shot out of bed, grabbed my jacket, and bolted out of the room. As soon as I made it out, I saw a guard I did not recognize standing outside with an annoyed look on his face.

"I'm sorry..." I said nervously to the bulky figure, who was at least a full head, if not more, taller than me.

"It doesn't matter. Let's just keep moving."

I found it unusual that we were under attack but the entire building seemed to be asleep. It was so quiet I could probably hear a pin drop. We continued making our way through the empty hall and into the elevator. I expected to see people hustling to get out, but there was nobody. There was not a single soul insight. I began to wonder if I had slept through the evacuation and now this guard had to waste his time and come rescue me. I caught him glancing over at me a couple times but I could not read his expression
