Chapter 54: Life what a long rode

Ben's p.o.v:

I love both of my kids but it has been hard on me the past week. I don't want to believe Tonya about Tony. However a part of me is scared it is true. If it is then how do I go on. I don't want to lose my son. I have tried very hard to be the father that I should be. The reason it was so and is so important for me to be here for my kids is because of my dad. My dad was never around. He was there for my siblings but at a young age my dad left. I tried to have a relationship with him but I couldn't. He wouldn't let me. It hurt a lot but I swore to myself that my kids would never know that much hurt. However they are feeling just as much hurt if not more than I did as a kid. I have taken off of work to be a supportive dad to my son. Tonya won't let me be supportive for her. Also I have Elizabeth to worry about. So I gave the job over to Megal for the meantime. He will have my spot until this is all over with. I have stated going to a parent support group a month ago. Elizabeth and I go but it hasn't seemed to help this week. They don't know what we are going through. Yes I feel better when Megal prays for me but not by much. The class is suppose to be helping us but I don't know about it anymore. None of the other people know what we are going through. They can try to understand us but they won't ever even come close. Not with this at least. I do wish that it helped more though.

Before I go to the trial I make a stop to talk to Megal. When I walk in he shakes my hand. I have a seat. I say, "Ok so you know about the trail and about the class."

He nods.

"Ok well Elizabeth has been taking everything so hard. I don't know what I can do to help get the woman I love back."

"Well all you can do is pray, love her through it, and take her to class."

"Well the class hasn't been helping her or I lately."

"I can understand that. Just let the support group be what it is. A support group. What I mean by that is let us be a group that you can talk to about everything and feel at home in the group like we are all family."

"I will try to let the support group do it's job."

I go to the trail and my son is already there. Hope and my daughter are already there also. I take my seat. Brittany looks at me and says, "It's nice of you to finally join us. Let's begin with day three shaw we."

I nod.

She says, " very good. Now who are you putting on the stand today?"

"I'm going to call on doctor Lucas."

Lucas gets up and goes sits in the stand. I walk up to him and say, " So Tonya came and talked to you about her brother supposedly trying to kill her baby."

"Yes."

"How did she seem?"

"She seemed sad about the whole thing."

"She wasn't mad?"

"No she was just sad."

"Did she tell you what happened?"

"Yes she did."

"At that point what did you do?"

"I had my nurse take her vitals. After that I sent her to make a bed in the hospital. When she returned I had Mike carry Tonya to the bed since she was so weak that she couldn't stand. Once we got her in the room I gave her a shot to make sure the baby would be fine. Finally I pumped her stomach to get the poison out."

"Did you know 100% at that point that it was poison or were you just going off of what she said?"

"I knew without a doubt that she had been poisoned."

"What did you advise her to do?"

"As a doctor I had to tell her to go tell someone in the law field."

"You couldn't have had her come talk to me?"

"With all due respect no I couldn't. You are to close to this case and I didn't know how you would react."

"No farther questions."

Brittany says, "Hope do you have any questions?"

"Yes your honor." She gets up and walks to the stand.

"What was her vitals?"

"They were very high at first but then crashed very low."

"Is that common in people who have been poisoned?"

"Yes it is."

"What was the shot you gave her?"

"It was a shot that helps babies who are very premature either grow all of their organs or stabilize then if they are to early to grow all of the organs."

"Could she still have the baby early?"

"Yes she could but that is because the shot I had to give the baby so that it wouldn't die."

"Why did you choose to give the baby the shot?"

"Because as a doctor it is my job not to let my patients die. At that point both of them were my patients. If the baby would have died then it would have killed Tonya. Her body would have gone into shock since she would have lost the baby to poison."
