THIRTEEN - "FONDA."

"We don't have much time, make it quick okay?"

Standing by the apartment door, Lyds Greystone felt pain flood her system, like something she couldn't block out, like Danny.

She'd tried not to show it, the girl having had always painted an image of herself in her head as the soldier, the strong one, the support system, within her own broken family unit as well as Danny's. It didn't matter how many nights she'd found herself in the Bixler's apartment sobbing her heart out in Ellie's arms, she still chose to believe that she was that for them, and they let her. But it was clear that each of them had grown familiar to her tells, Kassie and Danny being the only two heirs remaining could tell it a mile off, Danny especially.

And that night hadn't changed a thing, especially not in her tells. For the moment she reached for her lovers palm and winced at the strain, ever so slightly, his hands were all over her without a second's notice.

Even whilst he tied an old rag around his arm to stem his haemorrhaging wound, he still was thinking of her.

He couldn't stop it now.
Just couldn't get her out.

"Let me see." He begged, refusing Beth's command.

"I'm fine."

"Lyds you don't look fine-"

"Danny there's literally a hole in your arm right now, you shouldn't be asking if I'm okay."

"But I still am." He swallowed, "Please? I just need to know your ribs aren't broken."

L knew well and truly they were, she'd felt them crack under Ellie's weight, she could've sworn she'd even felt them press down on her lungs, but with Danny's wavering stare upon her she only wanted to lie to him.

Not in the way he had her, but just enough so that he mightn't worry.

A white lie.

"Guys come on - quickly!" Beth pushed, her eyes flickered between the apartment door and the unknown that stretched out before them in the glowing living room. Ellie was still in there, so was Bridget, and it was only a matter of time before they came back around. They had to move quickly.

"I think they're just bruised." The blonde shrugged and pulled up her shirt for her friend to see.

He felt his heart burn in his chest. Like the deadites had reached up from the pits of hell themselves and torn it back in with them.
