July 1st, 2018

The band had worked out song after song throughout the previous days, some good, some bad, some that Lucia really wanted to keep for herself. She was happy to be home with her family, but she also missed Mila like never before (the time difference was crazy hard for them- even though it was the same time difference that Lucia had with Taylor...) and was excited to get to New York that night to hang out with her.

Taylor had about six days before her next tour date, and she was going to swing by New York to surprise Lucia before heading to Rhode Island for her 4th of July party. Taylor had reached out to Mila through Instagram (which nearly killed the Brit) and they'd planned the surprise. Taylor didn't know why she felt like surprising a girl she'd known for like- two weeks, but Lucia had been her closest friend as of late, and seeing her would make Taylor feel a little happier than she had felt.

"Okay- fuck airports." Lucia groaned into her phone, pulling her hoodie tighter over her face.

"Agreed." Taylor smiled, knowing how bad paparazzi were at every airport.

"I'm not even fucking famous and they're following me."

"You're friends with me, babe, yes, you are." Taylor giggled.

Lucia rolled her eyes as she made her way towards the gate. "I'm probably gonna have to hang up so no one sees you when I get on the plane. I'll call you later?"

"Sounds good!" Taylor blew Lucia a kiss before hanging up.

Lucia stuffed her phone into her pocket and pushed her way into the plane, muttering a few curses in different languages before reaching her seat. She settled in, eventually pulling her computer out and continuing to work on a song she was writing. Sometime around noon Lucia fell asleep, speeding through the rest of the flight in the realm between sleep and waking until the end of the flight.

Lucia woke up as the plane landed to the violent buzzing of her phone.

"BITCH YOU'RE ALMOST HERE!" Mila screamed, her voice shaking with excitement.

"Ow, why are you screaming in my fucking ear, bitch?" Lucia giggled.

"Because, I am so damn excited." Mila squealed. Lucia looked up from her phone, seeing the face of her gleeful best friend.

Lucia hung up the phone and rushed across the airport into the arms of her best friend. Something about Mila just made Lucia feel safe. Maybe it was that Mila knew everything about Lucia and still wanted to be her friend. Or maybe it was just that Mila cared.

"Oh my god I missed you so much," Lucia grinned.

"Me too," Mila sighed. "How was Italia?"

"Giuro su Dio," (I swear to God). "Your pronunciation is severely lacking." Lucia giggled.

"True." Mila smiled, putting her arm around the brunette as they began to walk toward Mila's Jeep. "I have a surprise."

"Ah merda, what is it?" (shit) Lucia rolled her eyes.

"If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?" Mila smirked.

The car ride through New York was hectic (as usual), but they made it to their favorite dive bar, Bicchiere, owned by the oldest Italian man Lucia knew. Lucia stepped out of the car, taking a deep breath of the smoggy New York air.

"C'mon, the surprise is waiting!"

"Did you get me a stripper?" Lucia raised an eyebrow.

Mila rolled her eyes, pushing her friend toward the door. Lucia opened the door of the bar, the sounds of shitty pop filling her ears. Her eyes trailed across the nearly empty bar before landing on a certain sunglass-wearing blonde.

"Chiudi il becco." (Shut the fuck up) Lucia cried, rushing forward to embrace Taylor.

She wrapped her arms tightly around the taller woman's waist, inhaling her floral scent.

"Hello to you too," Taylor grinned, pulling back from the shorter girl.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" Lucia asked, fanning her face to try and back off the blush that was burning her cheeks.

"I have a few days off before my next show and I wanted to see you again," Taylor grinned, a pink tint painting her cheeks as well.

"How kind of you,"

"Also- I'm here to convince you to come to Rhode Island to celebrate the fourth with me."

"You do know neither Mila nor I give a flying fuck about American Independence Day?" Lucia asked, pointing toward the Brit at the bar behind her.

"It will be so much fun I promise."

"You're going to have to buy me a few drinks before we even discuss that again," Lucia chuckled, walking to where her friend sat.

"I'm always down to buy you a drink." Taylor smirked, a mischievous look in her eyes.

"And what would your boyfriend think of that?"

"Two white wines, please,"
