Jay's POV
Ella's plane was landing soon. I was standing in the airport watching her latest interview. "Okay, let's see what's going on," I sighed. I hit play. She was gorgeous, even though she says the camera added ten pounds, but I didn't see it. "What are you guys talking about?"
"No," Ella's voice came through as I turned out the volume a bit.
"Yes," Matt stated at the same time.
"Okay, so which one is it?" Mari asked.
"We are not a thing," Ella pointed.
"What?" I asked.
"Seriously?" Matt asked.
"Matt, you're a very good friend of mine, but I am positive that we are not dating," Ella looked at him.
"How are you so sure?" Matt asked.
"This is getting interesting," Mari smiled.
"Because I am in a committed relationship with someone," Ella stated. "Why do you think I'm always saying no to dinner dates, to going out or even just hanging out with you one on one?" I smiled. "Because after this tour, I am going home to someone." I looked up, and I saw Ella running towards me. I clicked off my phone and shoved it in my pocket. She ran into my arms and I hugged her tight. "God I've missed you."
"Glad to have you back," I smiled. I let go and look at her. "I watched your interview. I thought home was California?"
"It's not the house that makes a home," Ella replied. "It's the people, and my people is you."
"Let's get you home," I smiled. I grabbed her suitcase for her and held her hand with my free hand. We walked out to my truck. I put her suitcase in the backseat after opening her door for her. When she got in, I close the door and I got into my seat. "Okay, are you hungry at all?"
"I had an 8:30 breakfast, a 9 o'clock interview and it's now only 11," Ella replied. "I think I'm okay for a while."
"Do you know how to drive my truck ?" I asked.
"If that's your way or asking if I know how to drive, the answer is yes," Ella stated. I pulled up to the District. "What are we doing?"
"I'm going back to work," I pointed. "You can take the truck and do whatever you want to do. I can have Hailey drop me off."
"Alright," Ella nodded. "Don't work too hard."
"I'll try not to," I smiled. I gave her a quick kiss and went inside. I went upstairs and Hailey stopped me halfway. "Where are we going?"
"Chicago Med," Hailey sighed We got in her car. "4 girls wanted to report a rape and Med did the rape kits, happened at the abandoned warehouse on Pulaski."
"When?" I asked.
"Last night," Hailey replied. We went to Chicago Med and interviewed the girls. "Anything?"
'They're too traumatized to talk to me because I'm a guy," I stated. "You should've brought Burgess."
"She was busy with a task for Voight," Hailey replied. "Maybe your girlfriend can get through to them."
"What makes you think Ella can get them to open up?"
"She's a celebrity. I'm sure she can get them talking."
"And I'm sure they don't wanna share their trauma with a celebrity."
"Jay," Will walked up to us.
"Hey, what do you have?" I asked.
"Each of their tox screens came back," Will replied. "They each had GHB in their system; rohypnol."
"Dr. Halstead," Maddie walked up with Ella.
"You're a doctor too?" Ella asked.
"I'm Dr. Halstead," Will raised his hand "How do you know my brother?"
"Ella's my girlfriend," I pointed. "We've kept it out of the public eye pretty well." Ella smiled. "That's besides the point. Why are you here?"
"Rohypnol is your basic date rape drug, aka roofies," Ella stated.
"That's why," Hannah pointed at Ella. "She was at a medical seminar two years ago with her dad." Ella nodded. "How is he?"
"Good," Ella smiled. "Hannah studied at the hospital my dad teaches at." Hannah put her arm around Ella. "We're really good friends."
"She's not school taught, but she's very knowledgeable in the medical field," Hannah nodded.
"Based on what Hannah has told me, it's highly unlikely that they'll want to relive this trauma," Ella stated. "And I'm 70% positive the same guy did this."
"He has one hell of a bounce back to do this to 4 girls," I stated.
"Unless he did them at the same time," Will stated.
"It's disgusting, but it can happen," Ella sighed.
"Thanks, Ella," Hannah smiled.
"You're welcome," Ella nodded.
"I'll see you at the apartment," I stated. Hailey and I went back to the District. "Okay." We worked the case. Night fell and I had Hailey drop me off at my apartment. I walked in and there were ballgowns all over the place. "Ella?"
"Hey," Ella popped her head out from the bedroom. "Excuse the mess."
"It wasn't like this when I left this morning," I pointed. "What are you doing?"
"My dad just sent me a reminder of the Tennyson Christmas Gala," Ella sighed. She got all her gowns straightened out. "Once I was old enough, I'm required to always bring a plus one and every year, that plus one was always Michael. Until this year." I looked at her. "This year it's you."
"Yeah, I got that, but shouldn't I be the nervous one since I'm meeting your parents?" I asked.
"I've gotta have the right dress and the right look," Ella nodded. "I've gotta get you the right suit and cleaned up well."
"Hey," I stated, a little offended.
"Baby, you clean up nicely, but we gotta make sure the cuts are fresh," Ella looked at me. "You gotta take some time off."
"Okay, you look perfect in anything and I mean anything," I nodded. "Whatever dress you pick, it'll be perfect. Now, I need you to take a couple deep breaths." She did. "Okay, exactly how big is this gala?"
Monique's POV
Once Ella and Jay landed at LAX, I picked her up. "Isn't it a little late to get ready for your family's gala?" I asked. We got into my car. I drove us to her house and we walked in. "What exactly are we doing?"
"We're spending the whole day giving him a makeover," Ella pointed at Jay.
"Me?" Jay asked. "Why me?"
"Jay, your suit is just a suit," Ella replied.
"Oh, no, sweetie, you can't just show up with a simple suit and tie to this event," I nodded. "Let's get started." I spent 3 hours giving Jay different suits and different matches to see if Ella liked any of them. Jay walked out to Ella and I in a suit. "How is this one?"
"No," Ella sighed.
"I have one more that I want to try," Jay stated.
"Okay," I replied. Jay left. "Girl, I'm not sure what he has in mind. That was the last suit I had for him."
"Let's see what he can come up with," Ella nodded.
"How about this one?" Jay asked. Ella looked at him. "So?"
"That's the one," Ella smiled. "But change the tie to match my dress."
"I'll go get the tie in your dress color," I smiled as I stood up. "We got a winner, Jay. You can change back to your normal clothes." Jay left the room. "I heard Michael is going to be at your family's gala. Are you gonna be okay with that?"
