It was 10 in the morning when my brother Edric drove me to Hexside University. My parents lived an hour away and didn't bother to see me off. Not that I cared or wanted them to. Jerbo, Edrics boyfriend, was in the back to help us unpack everything. When we got to Hexside, they had to drag my couch up the stairs and put it in the living room. Thank God my roommate Boscha wasn't there yet. She would just be in the way.

After about 3 hours of  getting my dorm set up, Edric and Jerbo left. I unpacked my things in my room and decided to take a walk around campus. I hid all my booze and left. How had Boscha still not gotten here. I pulled out my phone to text her, but saw an unread message from an hour ago.

Boscha: hey i'm helping out skara set up her dorm might be here awhile don't wait up for me

Amelia: ok

I went on my phone and looked at the campus map my sister Em had sent me. A little cafe within walking distance caught my eye. I decided to go there, since I didn't have a car. I grabbed my wallet, my tote bag with my laptop, and attached my new key to the keychain that held pepper spray and one of those stabby thingys. I was pretty big on self defense because I was... smaller.

I went down the 4 flights of stairs and stepped into the warm-ish, early-autumn air and made my way to The Owl House Cafe.

LUCIA POV

My nap was cut short by Willow yelling at me to wake up.

"How did you already fucking fall asleep it's like 1:00." She yelled at me.

"I don't fucking know, I'm a sleepy bitch I guess." I rubbed my eyes and sat up, grabbing the red beanie that had fallen off my head in my sleep.

"Well, we're meeting up with Hunter and Gus at this little cafe. You're coming." She said and walked out of the room before I could say anything. I got up and groaned, stretching my arms. I went over to my dresser and put on a pair of light gray washed jeans, a baggy white tee, and some white converse. Over this I put on my usual green field jacket and beanie.

"Yo, Wills, are we driving there?" I called out of my room.

"No, it's like super close, we can walk." I heard the response.

"Ok then Imma bring some smokes. Will you want one?" I grabbed a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from my backpack and headed out from my room into the living room to wait for my roommate.

"Uhhh, I guess. You don't have any weed?" she asked , sounding a little disappointed.

"No, I'll get some soon though. I'm sure there's a dealer or something on campus." Willow nodded in agreement to my statement.

We left the dorm and went into the fall air. I pulled out 2 cigarettes and handed one to Willow. she held it out for me to light it, which I did, then doing the same to mine.

"So," I said, inhaling a breath of smoke, "what's up with you and Hunter?"

"We're talking. He's asked me out a few times but he hasn't asked me to be his girlfriend

"Dude needs to stop beating around the bush." I laughed a little bit, and Willow did the same.

"You tell him that. Also, you're not any better. You sleep around A LOT."

"You're just mad cuz I pull." I said with a grin on my face.

"Mhm. That's definitely it."

We walked and talked and smoked for about 5 more minutes before we reached the cafe. It really was close. The sign in one of the windows read "The Owl House Cafe— NOW HIRING!" Maybe I'll ask about that inside.

We walked in and saw Hunter and Gus sitting in awkward silence at a booth. Hunter lit up when he saw Willow and me and ran over to greet us, Gus doing the same. I gave both friends a tight hug and then we all sat down at the booth, me next to Gus, Willow and Hunter across from us.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a slightly farmhouse head if minty hair sitting at the coffee bar. What a coincidence I thought to myself. I'll introduce myself later. Then somebody blocked my view of her. I looked up and saw who must've been our server.

"Hey you guys!" they said in a cheery tone. "I'm your server, Raine. What can I get started for you?"

Everybody ordered and I asked for a chocolate croissant and an iced coffee. It wasn't too cool outside, and it wasn't time for dinner yet either. Before the waiter left, I asked them about the sign at the front.

"Oh yeah, I can get you an application if you want!" They said. I nodded in agreement.

The food and drinks came, we all talked about our summers, and my eyes couldn't help but drift towards Minty. We all wrapped up our conversation, and I told Willow to go ahead so I could get my application filled out.

I went to the bar to ask for an application, and "coincidentally" sat down right next to Minty. She was hunched over a laptop, sipping on a hot drink. While I waited for the papers to come, I tried to strike up a conversation.

"What's up neighbor?" I asked. I seemed to have shocked her, since she jumped a little bit. She looked over at me and eyed me up and down a little bit. I couldn't help but notice a somewhat judgy face. Hopefully it was just a resting bitch face.

"And who are you?" Minty asked, going back to whatever she was busy with in her laptop.

"Your dorm neighbor, duh," I said. Raine came out with the papers and I thanked them and turned back to Minty. "I saw you when I got here. Your door was wide open and you were yelling at some tall skinny guy."

"Oh." She said, not looking over at me. I let out a little laugh through my nose as I started filling out papers. Her attitude was a little bit ironic. She was so uptight.

"So what's your deal, bossy boots? You seem to hate me already and you don't even know my name." At this she closed her laptop and looked over at me, rolling her eyes.

"First of all, don't call me that. Second of all, who says I hate you?" she said in a monotone voice. She pulled up a tote bag off the floor to put her laptop away. It was covered in pins, but one stood out to me: it had an orange, white and pink design on it. Hmm. I grinned and nodded to myself when i saw the design. Minty eyed me, waiting for an answer.

"You're right. I shouldn't assume things I guess. So that means you don't hate me?" I said with my eyebrows raised, grabbing a napkin and writing down my number on it very subtly. Her gaze was a little less hardened when she looked over at me.

"Like you said, I don't even know you."

"Well, my names Lucia Noceda." I offered my hand for her to shake.

The minty girl denied shaking my hand. "Amelia Blight." She got up to leave, and I finished writing on the napkin. I slipped it in her bag and said, "See ya later then, Minty."

She turned around one more time before leaving and said, sounding slightly annoyed, "I told you my name, you've gotta call me by it now."

"Ok then, Blight," I emphasized, knowing it would annoy her.

"That's not w— ughh," she groaned in annoyance and then left, leaving me laughing to myself. I finished filling out the application and then gave it to Raine, who told me to come back tomorrow to talk to the manager. Then, I headed back to my dorm while the early evening began.
