September 17th, 1834 - Colorado, USAKit Beaumont was a man of the wilds. He'd lived his last forty years on the frontier, hunting and trapping, and selling furs to the natives and the fur companies. He was excellent at it, too, managing to get the furs of even the most dangerous animals found in the Rocky Mountains, which was a good thing as the fur trade was starting to dwindle. He liked the lifestyle of a trapper. He was solitary, decently nomadic save for his small cabin, and nobody was ever able to figure out his unfortunate secret of being a vampire. Well, so long as he was careful about it. The downside to frontiering was the... food offerings, he sold most of his meat to whoever needed it, as normal food was useless to him now. Instead, he was forced to drink from the filth-covered necks of other hunters and trappers he found alone in the woods, one's like the poor bastard he'd just finished draining.
"Charles? Where'd ya go, man?" A drunk, boisterous voice called out. Kit cursed, grabbing the body and snapping its neck before dropping it into the ravine and taking off into the woods. He was faster than the average human, but he'd taken a risk and fed close to a camp, and he could hear stumbling footsteps trying to follow. "Charles quit fucking around! You'll get hurt out here, boy!" The voice said again. Kit just stayed quiet and ran faster, keeping an eye out for a place to hide. This night air was chilly and the terrain was looser in this area than he was used to. He stashed his things in a cave not too far.
"There you are," he grinned as he spotted the cave opening, sliding inside. He quickly grabbed his leather satchel and ran further in, following a strange, tube-like cave. Kit glanced behind him for a moment, and that distraction was enough to send him face first into the tunnel wall. "Shit," he cursed again, holding his face. The tunnel began to rumble around him, rocks falling until the entire thing was collapsing. Kit jumped out of the way, watching as a massive slide of debris filled into the area he'd been standing. He sighed and looked around. In his foolishness, he'd run directly into a mine and collapsed it with the force of his collision. He tried going further in, but it just opened into a cave with no other way out. Not even in his form of mist could he escape, the airflow completely stagnated within. Kit put his hands on his hips and looked around with a frown.
"Even more shit."
